Ever since we first started discovering dinosaurs in the early 1800s, our obsession for uncovering everything about these creatures has been insatiable. Each generation has made huge strides in trying to better our understanding of these animals, and in the past 20 years, we have made more discoveries than in the previous 200.
There have been extraordinary advances in palaeontological methods, and ever more dinosaur fossils promise a landslide of new data and huge leaps forward in our understanding of these incredible animals. Over time, we have been bale to look at the sizes and shapes of bones, we have identified patches of fossil skin, we have looked at footprints and bite marks and we've calculated mass estimates and walking speeds.
With surprisingly little data to work from, we can put together a picture of an animal that has been extinct for a million human lifetimes. But for all our technological advances, and two centuries of new data and ideas, there is still much more we don't know. What parasites and diseases afflicted them? How did they communicate? Did they climb trees? How many species were there?
In The Future of Dinosaurs, palaeontologist Dr David Hone looks at the recent strides in scientific research and the advanced knowledge we've gathered in recent years, as well as what we hope to learn in the future about these most fascinating of extinct creatures.

Marvellous
I loved this. Hone is a marvellous writer, he is witty and interesting and he lays out the science of palaeontology so vividly but lightly worn, which is some feat. It could easily have been a dense book given he touches on what seems to be all of the science up to the most modern advancements and even those that are only beginning to get attention. I felt as though I quite significantly understood field at the end. He is also quite funny throughout. Excellent.

enlightening and entertaining
An interesting and wide ranging discussion about the state of dinosaur knowledge, or lack of. It contains enough detail to be engaging without being overtly academic. The narration is excellent

One of the better books on dinosaurs
Not a long book at all but very comprehensive and easy to follow along. Dr Hone continues to be one of the best science communicators we have in the paleontological world.

Just the book I was looking for
Fantastic book by David Lawrence discussing what we know about dinosaurs and how new technology and scientific methods will help paleontologists find out even more, this was exactly what I was looking for.
Tom Lawrence does a good job with narration which is nice and clear with no mispronunciation.
I will definitely be listening to the book again.

Interesting enough but could have been better
This was quite a good listen but I felt that they could have been more detail and it could have lasted a bit longer.
