Albert Campion is summoned to the village of Kepesake to investigate a particularly distasteful death. The body turns out to be that of Pig Peters, freshly killed five months after his own funeral.

Soon other corpses start to turn up, just as Peter's body goes missing. It takes all Campion's coolly incisive powers of detection to unravel the crime.

Margery Allingham was a prolific writer who sold her first story at age eight and published her first novel before turning 20. Allingham went on to become one of the preeminent writers who helped bring the detective story to maturity in the 1920s and 1930s.

l never tire of Allingham's superb literary characters, Albert Campion and Magersfontein Lugg. The wit which the great writer uses in all of her works are perfectly displayed in The Case of the Late Pig. Perfectly read, as ever, the characters jump off of the page in an absolutely cracking story which is all the more entertaining due to the brevity. Of course, l would still have adored this outing even had it been twice or more as long.

This is another dark mystery where people are Dieing all over the place. Read brilliantly again by David Thorpe.

This was my first experience of Margery Allingham and what a delightful period-piece romp it was! I hadn't expected it to be so funny, with deliberately larger than life characters and some rather ridiculous goings-on, as well as an intriguing and imaginative case. (I tend to find humour and murder mysteries an uncomfortable mix, so it's lucky I came to the book blind, or I may get have denied myself a lot of fun!)

The tale is performed brilliantly by David Thorpe, who has a whole array of suitable voices at his command. I look forward to joining Campion on further adventures with him as my guide.

Not long enough for the usual complex plot but still complicated enough to keep listening. Perfectly read.

Margery Allingham must be turning in her grave. Very sadly, the narrator has confused the highly intelligent and infinitely subtle Albert Campion with Bertie Wooster. I see that one reviewer was misled by this interpretation into taking Campion for an arrogant twerp - a great pity as that person will presumably not bother with all the rest of the marvellous Campion stories. Francis Matthews, who did other Campion audiobooks, was spot on, setting just the right tone. Surely someone could be found to carry on in a similar style (one doesn't expect a pastiche), instead of producing this complete misinterpretation of the central character.
I am only persevering with this narrator because (a) I already know how good the actual stories are; (b) I have set out to listen to the entire Campion series; and (c) I cannot find any other unabridged recording. Nevertheless, it is very hard work ignoring the narrator's style in order to focus on the quality of the actual narrative.

Lots of fun and jolly japes for Campion and Lugg, interesting characters introduced and a fun story (if murder can be thus described). It is written in the first person and David Thorpe does a great job of narrating. I prefer Francis Matthew’s Campion voice but t
narration from David Thorpe is always brilliant and enjoyable.

Campion, the wonderful Lugg and all the wonderful, impossibly plausible characters in his ever-so-slightly rose-tinted world between and during one of the Wars, improve like old wine after being 'rested' for a time.
Even Allingham incisive revelations of now outdated ideas and attidudes in the earlier works does not detract from the freshness, wry wisdom and understanding of the social mores and human nature to be found on every return to the fascinating lives and times of Albert, Amanda, Lugg and all their wierd and wonderful contempories! Just to think that the affable, attractive and quietly brilliant, ageless Albert should now be 120!!!
And as for the indomitable Lugg..........

The reader spoilt this for me as this was not the Albert Campion of my reading. "Played all the tight notes but not necessarily in the right order" seemed to sum it up. This reader by the use of tone or inflection made Campion into an egotistical effete idiot. I couldnt like him.
