A buried secret...

Present day: Anna is focused on growing her new gardening business and renovating her late grandmother's house. But when she discovers a box hidden in a wall cavity, containing water colours of exotic plants, an old diary and a handful of seeds, she finds herself thrust into a centuries-old mystery. One that will send her halfway across the world to Kew Gardens and then onto Cornwall in search of the truth.

A lady adventurer...

1886: Elizabeth Trebithick is determined to fulfil her father's dying wish and continue his life's work as an adventurer and plant-hunter. So when she embarks on a perilous journey to discover a rare and miraculous flower, she will discover that the ultimate betrayal can be found even across the seas...

Enjoyed the story but it was overshadowed by the appalling accents, would have been better narrated by the one Australian accent I think.

Nice story, terrible accents!!

The story was engaging, warm and exciting. The narration was great when in Australian, but when faced with any kind of accent it quickly unravelled. Official apologies should go out to the people of Cornwall. I came away feeling I'd enjoyed the story, but perhaps would have been more engrossed and less frustrated if I'd read it rather than listened. Perhaps alternating between an Australian and English narrator would have eased some of this.

Brilliant story, bad accents

A well read story of an enthralling link between historical events & its modern consequence.

loved it!

I was so disappointed in this book. Feel embarrassed to face my bookclub as this book was suggested by me! I ended up to speeding it up and only half listening at the end. I also found the narrator irritating and her attempt at accents and also pronunciation was laughable. Full of clichés, far fetched, too much jumping around. No character development, all rather predictable. It certainly put me off reading any more books by the author. It seemed like she had not done enough research or perhaps is not well travelled/educated.

Poor narration really spoiled it for me

Story was brilliant loved it but ruined by the awful narration. Narrator has a lovely voice but did the worst character voices and expressions I have ever heard! Absolutely dreadful and really weird

Also the accents were completely out - unless Cornwall has now been moved to Northern Ireland. All the Cornish characters spoke with a strong Northern Ireland accent.

Narration issues

This is an interesting story. Maybe not as gripping as I had hoped but it has something a bit different so still a pleasant listen.

The narrator had some issue with accents of the Cornish characters which floated all over the place and mostly landed at vaguely Irish.

It's worth a listen if you are looking for something gentle and find botany an interesting topic.

Quite an interesting plot

Accents were so poor I almost gave up - sometimes stereotypical characterisation was laughable

Poor narration did not help a middling story

The botanist daughter story is fabulous grabbed me from the start
Sadly the narrators voice was harsh & her attempt at accents irritating to say the least
The story kept me hanging on in there maybe 🤔 the author should think of having it re narrated

Great Story covering 200yrs +

I guessed the outcome at the start, but the joy was in hearing it told. it was narrated by an Australian who had a terrible Cornish accent. But it didn't detract. I just wish the story was true, though the descriptions of my fellow botanists was spot on! 😃

lovely story, it twists n turns over 3 continents

Really enjoyed this book. Although the narrator's attempts at accents hilariously funny. Overall well written. Perfect holiday read.
