The newspapers called it The Bad Place. A remote farm out on the Thames estuary, where six children were held captive for two weeks. Five of them got out alive.

Very good book and a good story. There were some times where the writing of the story could have flowed better but other than that it was very enjoyable and kept me hooked until the very end. I would definitely recommend. I am very new to audiobooks, this was my second so I'm not sure of how it usually works but if I could make a suggestion it would be that there be another narrator to narrate the Male characters.

Riveting read

The mark of a good book is if it keeps me reading/listening past my bedtime and this one certainly did that! This is a thrilling police procedural focussing on a crime 20 years ago where 6 children were kidnapped and taken to a remote farm - the Bad Place! Only five of them came out alive. Now in the present, children are going missing again, and it all seems to be linked to the first crime.

The story is told on dual timelines. the past and present. The plot is cleverly constructed and I really tried to work out who the present day kidnapper was but failed miserably. I like Mr Hill's writing style. The book was easy to read with just the right amount of detail to keep the story flowing well.

One of the best things about this book is the protagonist, DI Sasha Dawson. She is a great character, so well drawn and totally believable. She has a chaotic family life, full of problems, and she tries so hard to juggle the needs of her family whilst also trying to hold down a difficult unpredictable job. I couldn't help liking her and hope this will become a series. I loved Lolly too!

I should have taken onto account the other reviews on this book. Firstly it jumps 30 years or so with no explanation. You have to keep listening till half way through a chapter to discover what time frame your in. Then there are whole chapters ( which are thankfully short) on love and family relations bearing no relation to the story. Also as has been said by others the dialogue is terrible and badly written. The only saving grace is a good narrator. Shame she never had more to work with!

I struggled onto the end. Then wished I hadn't bothered.

This was a total disappointment, the story was good, but the author has a very odd idea of people's reactions to most situations!

I just wanted to shout at the phone, saying 'for goodness sake no one would say (or do) that!'. I found it a thorough turn off!

I won't try another from this author!
