About this listen
From the best-selling author of Cry Baby, the beginning of a brilliant and gripping police procedural series set in Liverpool, perfect for fans of Peter James and Mark Billingham.
A woman at home in Liverpool is disturbed by a persistent tapping at her back door. She's disturbed to discover the culprit is a raven and tries to shoo it away. Which is when the killer strikes.
DS Nathan Cody, still bearing the scars of an undercover mission that went horrifyingly wrong, is put on the case. But the police have no leads except the body of the bird - and the victim's missing eyes.
As flashbacks from his past begin to intrude, Cody realises he is battling not just a murderer but his own inner demons, too. And then the killer strikes again, and Cody realises the threat isn't to the people of Liverpool after all - it's to the police.
Following the success and acclaim of the Callum Doyle novels, A Tapping at My Door is the first instalment of David Jackson's new Nathan Cody series.

The characters were ok and the story seemed to be going well. I just couldnt finish the book becuase the Narator put me off with his oevr dramatic sentances and breathing. Its a Liverpool based book not a 3 part trilogy in HollywoodThe most annoying part is the authors continual references to the main characters dark past - bit tedious
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
Didn't finish it as i got boredHow did the narrator detract from the book?
Loads - awfulIf this book were a film would you go see it?

On the plus side, our hero here is quite well drawn and without the checklist of quirks and hobbies that Alan Partridge so beautifully (and unknowingly skewers) with his own regional detective 'Swallow'. The story starts very well, drifts towards more conventional territory then finally succumbs to the pressure of a rush job. In fairness, the big reveal is surprisingly divisive and will definitely make or break the book for you.
Overall a weak but cogent story, excellent narration and despite a few flaws the author pays respect to the reader by offering a detective that's almost normal. Recommended if on daily deal
