Summary

Joanne Haynes has a secret: that is not her real name.

And there’s more. Her flat’s not hers. Her cats aren't hers. Even her hair isn’t really hers.

Nor is she any of the other women she pretends to be. Not the best-selling romance novelist who gets her morning snack from the doughnut van on the seafront. Nor the pregnant woman in the dental surgery. Nor the chemo patient in the supermarket for whom the cashier feels ever so sorry. They're all just alibis.

In fact, the only thing that’s real about Joanne is that nobody can know who she really is.

But someone has got too close. It looks like her alibis have begun to run out....

Another great book by C J Skuse

I absolutely loved Sweepea and In Bloom, so I down loaded this on the basis it was written by CJ, and
I wasn’t disappointed. It’s all you would expect from CJ; dark, twisty, complex characters and fabulous ‘no idea where it is going’ plot. It flips between present day and past, and touches the wider issues of mental health, bullying, paranoia and trying to hide who you really are.
It’s hard to write a detailed review for this without giving any spoilers!
If you are a fan of the author, download and listen, it will have you gripped.

Not as good as other books *SPOILER*

Struggled with it. Disappointing compared to the authors previous books. Waited for a big twist at the end and there wasnt.

The narrators were good.

Amazing

Listened to it in 48 hours. Was absolutely gripped and when I wasn’t listening to it I was thinking about it. Highly recommend.

Fantastic story

A real page turner right up to the end. I loved all the characters and really felt the emotion in this beautifully written story.

A bit of a disappointment

I loved Sweet Pea, and In Bloom, and was really looking forward to "The Alibi Girl", but it just didn't work for me. The shaky, little girl voice that much of the book is read in just becomes irritating after a while, and I felt that the story never really found a structure or a proper voice. I couldn't quite believe the ending either. All in all...a bit of a disappointment

Good set up; good mystery; too well wrapped up

Really like Skuse as a story-teller. This one kept me interested but in the end was all too neat and tidy. Narrator was ok - too fond of the dark brilliance of Sweet Pea.

Great characters, gritty and real.

If you’re a fan of C J Skuse, this won’t disappoint. A great story teller, with a great voice. I’m always so sad to reach the end...

Enjoyable

An interesting start but flagged a bit with a dull end. Excellent narrators. I prefer something a bit grittier

loved it

I live cj skuse books and this one didn't let me down. Twists, turns, secrets, mystery, a little bit of gruesome and always a story that wraps up nicely.

I wanted to love this book...

I loved Sweet Pea and In Bloom I thought they were utterly fantastic and Skuse quickly went to my No. 1 list of ‘must listens’.

This book is written in that same fantastic detail which totally draws you in and Skuse is clearly a super talented writer, really skilful.

However unfortunately the storyline just doesn’t work for me. The main character was unlikable so I wasn’t rooting for her nor did I find her endearing in anyway. It all seemed very unbelievable and the main ‘event’ of the book which it leads up to is annoyingly left out of the entire storyline! You find out the before and after but not the during and the main character’s ‘way’ just becomes irritating.

I hate to write this review because I wanted to love it and downloaded it the day of release but unfortunately didn’t work for me. I’ll still look forward to the next release as her style of writing is fantastic.
