About this listen

Random House presents the audiobook edition of Star Wars: The Last Jedi by Jason Fry, read by Marc Thompson.

Written with input from director Rian Johnson, this official adaptation of Star Wars: The Last Jedi expands on the film to include scenes from alternate versions of the script and other additional content.

From the ashes of the Empire has arisen another threat to the galaxy’s freedom: the ruthless First Order. Fortunately, new heroes have emerged to take up arms - and perhaps lay down their lives - for the cause. Rey, the orphan strong in the Force; Finn, the ex-stormtrooper who stands against his former masters; and Poe Dameron, the fearless X-wing pilot, have been drawn together to fight side-by-side with General Leia Organa and the Resistance. But the First Order's Supreme Leader Snoke and his merciless enforcer Kylo Ren are adversaries with superior numbers and devastating firepower at their command. Against this enemy, the champions of light may finally be facing their extinction. Their only hope rests with a lost legend: Jedi Master Luke Skywalker.

Where the action of Star Wars: The Force Awakens ended, Star Wars: The Last Jedi begins, as the battle between light and dark climbs to astonishing new heights.

Improves on the story in the movie

Great narration.

Do wish they’d drop some of the sound effects library, footsteps not required !!

More complete than the movie.

Any additional comments?

I find this book version, not only a good translation of the film to written/spoken word, but fills out many of the characters' thoughts and feelings in so many places. I agree that this (like the Force Awakens book) is better than the film for the character development and situational analysis. References to earlier episodes in the film series are accurate and help. Marc Thompson does an excellent job of voicing the many parts, and really gets into the story - I found I was riding along with him on many occasions.

The only jarring issue I have with it is the gratuitous Prologue. This, in my opinion, adds nothing to the story, and jars because its references to earlier film episodes are often wrong! (It implies a very limited involvement of Luke Skywalker with Oban Kanobi, even to his not knowing what happened to Kanobi.) But don't let this put you off an excellent yarn in the Star Wars series. Definitely 5 stars all round.

A very good and faithful translation to book

The story was easy to follow, maybe a little too simple a plot line but a fun book.

I would say that the book is better then the film and is Worthing having the listen too. Goes in t much more detail the what the movie could do. Not saying that the movie is bad not any where near as bad as phantom Menace. In my opinion I like the movie and the book. I just think us Star Wars fans can be a bit fickle sometimes. I used one of my free book credits to get this book but would be well worth the money

If the movie isn’t for you the book is much better

Really well good audiobook. All the character voices were spot on, except Snoke is a bit deeper than the film. Great job.

Great addition to the film

The sound effects and music usually enhanced the story but occasionally got in the way.
