About this listen
In this essential Star Wars Legends novel, Mace Windu must journey to his long-forgotten homeworld to confront a terrifying mystery with dire personal consequences.
The jungle planet of Haruun Kal, homeworld of the legendary Jedi Master Mace Windu, has become a battleground in the increasing hostilities between the Republic and the renegade Separatist movement. The Jedi Council has sent Depa Billaba - Mace’s former Padawan and fellow Council member - to Haruun Kal to train the local tribesmen as a guerrilla resistance force. But now the Separatists have pulled back, and Depa has not returned. The only clue to her disappearance is a cryptic recording left at the scene of a brutal massacre: a recording that hints of madness and murder and the darkness in the jungle...a recording in Depa’s own voice.
Mace Windu trained Depa. Only he can find her. Only he can learn what has changed her. Only he can stop her. He will leave behind the Republic he serves, the civilization he believes in, everything but his passion for peace and his devotion to his former Padawan. And he will learn the terrible price that must be paid when keepers of the peace are forced to make war....

Great insight into Master Windu’s mindset and his abilities. Not as phenomenal as he is made out to be by Stover in ROTS but close. Highly recommend reading this.
Highly Recommend and OG story

Also as the story went on, i found Mace windu starting to seem like a dark lord of the sith, seeming to constantly get mad and angry and becoming a bit of a bully, not very jedi like at all!
I don't think the author has understood mace windu very well at all to be writing about him.
One or two of the side characters i found rather annoying too, acting and talking like children,
I found the audiobook a bit of a chore to get through to be honest, but i finished it never the less, for me personally it is one of the more forgettable legends stories and not one i will be going back to, only listen if you are a die hard star wars fan.
A little boring, It ain't mace windu either

From its beginning to its end, this whole story is a thoroughly enjoyable listen. The first positive is the setting: it feels like if the Vietnam War was slotted into the Clone Wars. Right from the get-go you understand that there are no heroes except Mace. Some characters are more light-side aligned but are not necessarily ‘good’. Another positive is the sheer brutality. It doesn’t go overboard but gives you enough information to understand how brutal war, especially guerrilla warfare, is. Essentially: War Is Hell
I could go on for ages about the setting, the characters and how they all grow, and so on. The basis is that the majority of this book is great. There are sound queues taken from the movies that were just a treat to hear. The narrator also does a fantastic job at giving all characters their own voice.
There are some downsides. As much as I wish to praise the setting, it can be to its own detriment at times. I found myself struggling to visualise some parts of the book. The 2/3 of the book felt very samey quite a few times. Also in my praise for the characters, some that we are supposed to care for do not get enough time to shine in their own right.
All in all, despite some of the downsides an audio novel of this magnitude is bound to have, it is an excellent listen and Nick Rostu is probably one of my favourite side characters in Star Wars ever now

Master Windu - need I say more

It makes him look like a fool for not helping Anakin when he knew that the young man was struggling with similar if not the same problems he dealt with in his life. It's not like Anakin was good at concealing his emotions.
Other than that, everything else was of expected quality.
The Contradictions of Mace Windu

Mace seems to be an easily misunderstood character even among fans, as he doesn't get enough screen time in the movies/TV series to allow for a detailed portrayal . But this novel does a great job of fleshing him out and introducting complexity as he continues to wrestle with his flaws while acknowledging and embracing his strengths. A powerful warrior with a clear love of fighting, Mace is often challenged to check himself and temper a natural ferocity that is only matched by his unwavering commitment to the Jedi principles. In revisiting the planet of his birth and his original people, we get to see why he is the way he is, as well as how his Jedi identity has shaped him to be distinct, both by Jedi standards and the standards of the Korunnai people. The novel also delves into his close relationship with his former padawan Depa Bilaba and further humanises Mace as he struggles not to let his fatherly attachment to her blind him and eclipse his sense of duty.
Sullivan Jones is overall a pleasure to listen to and seems a good natural fit for Mace's character without sounding like he is trying to be Samuel L Jackson. I also enjoyed the sound effects and music mixed into the background to create fitting ambience, whether it was trekking through dangerous jungle territory or tearing through a chaotic impromptu battleground. The secondary characters were also surprisingly complex and interesting, with the main antagonistic figure offering a strong, almost mythical presence that complemented Mace's equally headstrong but grounded personality. And while the story's conclusion is decidedly non-canon in light of more recent SW visual productions, Shatterpoint is still vastly enjoyable and a story that I will no doubt return to time and again.
Fantastic story showing Mace's complex brilliance
