About this listen

BEING A TEENAGER IS HARD ENOUGH WITHOUT ALSO TRAINING TO BE A JEDI….

Obi-Wan Kenobi has not been apprenticed long to Qui-Gon Jinn, and he is chafing at Qui-Gon's training style: all meditation, no action. Obi-Wan yearns to prove himself on a mission, but when he and Qui-Gon are finally set to leave on an assignment, Qui-Gon is nowhere to be found. Angered by his master's abandonment, Obi-Wan sets out on the mission alone, determined to prove himself.

On a mysterious planet he encounters a pack of feral, Force-wielding teens who seem to be the planet's only inhabitants. As he experiences wild freedom with them and wonders if this isn't the life he was meant for, Obi-Wan can't escape the nagging sense that something is wrong with the Force there. Growing attachments, startling revelations, and a looming threat to both the planet and his new friends will bring Obi-Wan face-to-face with his worst fear: that maybe he was never supposed to be a Jedi at all.

Can he connect with the living Force in time to save himself and everyone around him?

It's the star of the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ limited series as you've never seen him before….

Greatly performed audio experience

To start my review: The narrator did an excellent job in his voice acting! I really liked the way he sets the tone of the story with all kinds of nuances in his voice.

The story itself was ok. To be honest, it was not the best Star Wars story I've read, but it is quite the treat for fans of Obi-Wan or the High Republic series. (not going to spoil anything, but there will be some awesome references).

The story is all about the doubts, insecurities and feelings paired when coming to a certain age. I think that period of one's life is beautifully translated into a Star Wars novel.

I liked the way some characters were portrayed, but most of them were not really memorable and sometimes were a bit bland, as you can expect from a novel this size. The plot, in my opinion, started out quite interesting but began dropping my curiosity halfway near the end.

It could have had a bit more potential, but in its current state it's a fine book to read. Not a must read, I must say. But it is a book to pass the time in a relaxing kind of way. You will enjoy this one.

A lovely book about independence and anxiety

I'm certain other Obi-wan fans will love this title as much as I did! Such a nuanced exploration of the insecurities Obi-wan finds himself harbouring as a result of the expectations built up around the Force and everything it's meant to mean to a Jedi-in-training.

Hearing Obi-Wan work through the sky-high expectations he holds for himself -- perpetuated by not just what he's expected to live up to, but by his own ambition -- was so cathartic. It was so validating to hear him grapple with everything that comes along with striking out on your own; excitement, fear, anticipation, fear, drive, FEAR, and MORE fear. Force, Obi, it felt like peering straight into my OWN head. Kiersten really nailed that sense of roiling uncertainty, and how nauseating it can be to rocket between two ends of the spectrum of emotions that come with choosing to do something outside your comfort zone.

The new location and it's locals were all very endearing too. A tight-knit band of young survivors living on a hostile planet makes for the perfect juxtaposition to the crèche Obi-wan would have grown up in as a boy -- surrounded by adults on the safety of Coruscant. Really felt like they all worked for their camaraderie and I loved all the sweet character-driven moments. Thank you Kiersten for such a lovely book, and thank you Gary for such excellent narration and interpretation of the text!!
