About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

When the body of an Australian backpacker is found in Spain, an online group of amateur true crime sleuths springs up around the world, attempting to solve the mystery of her death.

Foremost on the message boards is Astria, a young Norwegian woman whose feverish pursuit takes her closer than anyone to solving the case.

But just as she makes her claim of unravelling the mystery, she goes offline.

No one in the group has heard from her since.

When William Wisting is sent to investigate, he is plunged deep into a fascinating world of unorthodox investigators, whose connections are as vague and varied as their abilities. But in a dangerous case where nothing is as it seems, these online detectives may be the best hope he has for solving the mystery - before another victim falls...

Fantastic

Really enjoyed this book, with the different style of storytelling. Cannot wait to listen to the next book.

Excellent

A very detailed procedural - but the characters are so well worked it is easy to get lost in the story.

Disappointing

I really enjoyed my first book The Cabin, and eagerly began to listen to this one. The narration spoilt it completely for me so flat and monotonous. I persevered to the end but would advise fellow listeners to try the sample before you purchase.

Disappointing end

Hours of gripping listening and slowly unfolding plot - finished up in a quick end. Loads of unnecessary detail.

Good book, predictable ending

I enjoyed the book and like the Wisting series of books but found it a bit predictable. It was easy to see where the story was going and work out the murderer.

Superb across all aspects.

Great plot, interestingly drawn characters, top quality narration and as always, terrific twists and turns. Wishing never disappoints.

Tedious

I found the narrator very boring to listen to. Little variation in the plodding monotonous tone. I tried playing it at a slightly faster speed but that didn’t help.
The writer seemed obsessed with including every banal detail that had no relevance to the plot but interfered with the narrative flow.
I wish I had not persevered with listening in the hope it might improve.

Dreadful book!

Awful story. It was almost like you were reading a crimereport it. Each person reading the same report over & over, so many characters to keep up with, things kept being repeated. Quite annoying to listen to be honest.
Top it off the narrator was even worse. He read like he was struggling to read a whole sentence and as he didn’t understand what he was reading.
With only a few chapters left I just could not bring myself to finish this book !
