About this listen

You think you know him. Until he's dead....

When Cameron Swift is gunned down outside his family home, DC Beth Chamberlain is appointed Family Liaison Officer: a dual role that requires her to support the family and also investigate them. I have to agree with other reviews in that this was a surprisingly good listen. Interesting story.

Great

This is a fantastic listen I didn't want to stop it once I started. The characters are so believable, and active in the storyline. I will definitely get more from this author. Brilliantly performed.

Extremely good

Really enjoyed listening to this book .. Narration was perfect .. a little sad to see a different narrator on the next 2 books , but I’m so fascinated in Beth , I think it’s time to start the next book and hope the narrator is as good 😊

What a superb book

The story is rather simplistic and the twists and turns are not much of a surprise, didn't get much in the way of suspense. An abridged version would have suited me better as there was too much description of inconsequential activities and situations.
I'm afraid the Irish accent used by the reader just grated on my nerves.
Audible attributed Suspense and Traditional Detective as the categories. I wish they would give a fuller description as this book was under categorised. Not everyone wants romance in their Traditional Detective stories.
Overall the book disappointed, I thought I'd found a detective who wasn't broken in some way, but the angst soon started.

I liked EVERYTHING about this book.
Could not put it down. I read it in record time- 24 hours.
I don’t usually read detective stories but glad I did.
Nothing too gruesome, no swear words, no embarrassing sexual content. Characters were so believable and I could definitely keep track of the story. Just so well written and narrated. Exciting. Not knowing what’s happening next. Fast moving. Highly recommend it. !!

Enthralling!

I listened to the sample of this before ordering and was impressed by the narrators tone that is until I bought it and listened to her try to do a Northern Irish accent.

It was dire!

The Asian and Australian accents were just as bad.

An ok story but nothing gripping or spectacular.

An ok read

I really enjoyed this story with a tangled Web of lies & deceit. Written & read well. The only thing that put me off a little was the Northern Irish accent was a bit off.

Great detective book

The story was spoiled by the narrator and it has put me off reading any other books by this author. It was difficult to follow the plot and distinguish one character from another but for me the most disappointing aspect of the narration was that none of the characters in the book had a believable local accent and it sounded as if most most of them were from Birmingham or the West Midlands. I would have preferred that no attempt was made at an accent rather than getting it so badly wrong.

I think perhaps if the story had been read by a more able narrator it would have merited 4 stars but I think those people praising the book in their reviews must have been listening to a different book. The characters were neither well drawn nor believable and it was difficult to distinguish one from another. I found it difficult to engage with the plot and I came close to giving up on it.

Disappointing
