I didn't enjoy this audio. Narration let a strong story down. I will listen again, but I was just glad to get to the end of this story. A few twists along the way kept me going.

This book was one of the best ive listend to in a while. Had me in tears at some parts. And gripped at others. Had me hooked right up to the end

gripping book

at times I wondered where it was going, writing the story as a narration - twist at the end was good.

story kept me wondering

A great ‘who done it’ and delves into personal relationships without it being a soppy book. Loved her descriptive yet easy to listen to way of writing. Definitely recommend on audio, nice narrator voice.

Gripping

I loved this book. It manages to be both a crime mystery and a quietly devastating portrait of grief. There were moments when I was close to tears. And yet the emotions are bound tightly to the plot, and the further in you go, the more uncomfortable events and perceptions become. This effect is helped by a clever, rather than gimmicky, use of its narrative structure. It totally avoids cliche and the writing at times is startlingly beautiful. I struggled with Juanita Mahon's voices of the characters other than the narration, but that's a minor point. The more I have thought about it now I have finished, the richer it has become. It seems a diservice to classify it as `crime' as the quality of writing takes it beyond genre.

Disquieting and heartbreaking

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I didn't realise this book had a key theme of stillbirth, and would have hesitated had I realised. As a midwife, I found aspects of the plot completely unrealistic but I was able to put those aside to continue the book.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

A fantastic plot twist, that should have been allowed to continue to its natural end. Disappointed that it was softened.

Did Juanita Mahon do a good job differentiating each of the characters? How?

Mostly good. Accents weren't consistent enough.

If this book were a film would you go see it?

Yes.

Almost really good

This book was well written with a good plot. The narration suited the character telling the story, although I did find I lost concentration on occasions. This is a good read although the ending was predictable. All in all, recommended.

I enjoyed this book so much. however, the ending ruined it for me. I would almost like the author to re-do the ending and republish.

loved every minute...until the end

This is a wonderful novel. I really liked it. It is more than a story of sisters, it is more than a crime story and it is more than a story of love and loss. The story twists and turns and is well written. You can not stop listening because you have to find out what has happened and what IS happening. I also liked the narrator. She read well and had a nice voice.

Sooooo gooood!
