Summary

Edge of your seat thrills from the master of the zombie apocalypse. Also includes the Salvation Chronicles (find out about other survivors in different parts of the world).

Sometimes being alone is better....

The world has crumbled, and the dead walk the Earth, but all is not lost. A group of survivors, led by weary veterinarian Anna and gruff loner Garfield, seek salvation at an abandoned pier where the dead can’t reach them. It's a place they might be able to call home, but then again, nowhere is truly safe.

The dead are everywhere but aren't the only threat. Other people survived the apocalypse, and when an injured man turns up at the pier, it sets into motion a terrible chain of events. The world may have changed, but people haven’t.

Do not listen to this audio book while walking home in the dark late at night lol 😀😀.
All I can say is it kept me on the edge of my seat well written and was narrated very well.

Beautifully narrated

A gripping story that is narrated with aplomb. Nigel plays all the characters in a believable manner and does not send any of the characters up.
Wonderfully told.

Loved it

Excellent book, must admit I am a fan of Iain Rob Wrights other books. Narrator slightly off at times, but did not affect the story line. Recommend reading, and would love to see more of the characters in a future book. Always a good sign when you want more!

Outstanding

More like an audio play than a novel. Voice acting and sfx really brought the story to life.

No holiday on the British coast

Overall story was nice despite the slowburn from the start.
The sound effects and background music was, I’m sorry to say terrible.
I did like the story because the writer made some decisions with his characters which were different.

Hoped for a grittier ride

Firstly, I must say that Nigel does a fantastic job narrating the story; his characters are all individual and well defined with different accents and the background sound effects are very well done (and don’t detract from the story at all).
Unfortunately for me, whilst it was an enjoyable story, I had hoped it would be a little grittier and darker, as despite some gruesome instances, it seemed to have the feel of a easy-to-read adventure story rather than an intense gritty terror filled zombiefest!
Although this is the third book in the series, I haven’t read the first 2, and at no point was I confused; it reads well as a stand-alone book.
This is my honest opinion of a free review copy.

Zombies vs Humans vs Humans

First things first: I didn't realise until I was well into the book that this was the 3rd book in one series and the 7th in another. I much prefer to read a series in order and may well have skipped this if I'd known sooner. That being said, this can easily be read as a standalone novel and is a complete story in itself.

The story is well written with plenty of detail, loads of action and well developed characters. There is plenty going on and the pace is good. The trouble with zombie stories though that they will invariably be compared to The Walking Dead TV show and this is no exception, in that, as per usual the main conflict soon evolves into being not between humans and zombies but between different bands of humans. I'm sure I'm not alone in drawing comparisons between the book characters and those on the TV show. Personally I stopped watching The Walking Dead once Negan was introduced as I hate the psychotic, bullying megalomaniac types. Samuel in this book fits that mould and is a similar character to Negan, in my opinion.

Still an entertaining read though not really my preferred subject choice.

The Narrator, Nigel Peever, does an excellent job of bringing the characters to life, each having a unique voice and with plenty of emotional depth in the dialogue and general narration.

The real downside for me was the sound effects. I listen to audiobooks while driving a refrigerated van for work and as such I have the volume quite high. The "jingles" between chapters as well as some of the incidental music is absolutely ear-piercing in places and even some of the background sounds detract and distract from the story. While they were quite well done I feel the audiobook would have been better without the added sound effects.

I received a free copy of this audiobook either from the author or a promotion or giveaway and am voluntarily writing an honest and unbiased review.
