Summary

New York Times and USA Today best-selling authors Tessa Dare and Christi Caldwell come together in this smart, sexy, not-to-be-missed Regency Duet!

His Bride for the Taking: It's the first rule of friendship among gentlemen: Don't even think about touching your best friend's sister. But Sebastian, Lord Byrne, has never been one for rules. He's thought about touching Mary Clayton - a lot - and struggled to resist temptation. But when Mary's bridegroom leaves her waiting at the altar, only Sebastian can save her from ruin. By marrying her himself.

His Duchess for a Day: It was never meant to be... That's what Elizabeth Terry has told herself while trying to forget the man she married - her once best friend. Passing herself off as a widow, Elizabeth has since built a life for herself as an instructor at a finishing school, far away from that greatest of mistakes. But the past has a way of finding you, and now that her husband has found her, Elizabeth must face the man she's tried to forget.

The second story was disappointing

Although I enjoyed the first story which had a positive heroine who knew what she wanted and was prepared to take her chances I found the second weak. I thought the time frame too long and why would they need to elope again when they were of an age to get married. Disappointing. Can I also point out that there would not have been paper instructions with the bed on how to construct it, this was not the age of Ikea. I wish authors of their proof readers would think things through a little more.

first one was a delight 2nd one not so much

I wish they'd used a better narrator, I honestly can't stand this narrator's affected accent & almost didn't listen to it as soon as I saw who was narrating!

His bride for the taking;

I absolutely loved it, Sebastian & Mary were wonderful.

It was a sweet, short, delightful & funny story.

Their misadventures were hilarious, especially the dinner... it had me in stitches & crying with laughter:)

I loved that Mary was a go-getter & how protective Sebastian was if her!

The 5 stars are for this book alone.

His Duchess for a day;

The overall story was nonsensical... had a shorter time passed, I might've given it a pass, but there's no way the situation would've been left for that long when in those days the most important factors for nobility were heirs & spares.

Elizabeth was a bit of a ninny, who blamed Crispin for her own actions when she'd known the kind of man he was & why he'd say what he did.

I genuinely don't get what she was hoping to accomplish as bigamy was & still is a crime, so through her actions, he was stuck & he might've died in their time apart with no family of his own, even though he'd been selfless in his actions, trying to help her...

His mother's schemes are even more nonsensical... why wait all those years instead of trying to accomplish her goals BEFORE they'd both reached maturity & went public?

The chances that her wish would've been granted nearly a decade later when they were now both adults & her son a Duke to boot... were inane to say the least.

Very romantic.

Two stories , very romantic. I enjoyed both stories and the narrator Justine Eyre was great.

Ok

I preferred then first story to the second one. I personally really struggled with Justine Eyre’s narration of both stories. All seemed to be at one level not really capturing the various characters.

A story with pace

The narrator did not have much variety in her delivery or characterisation of different characters. Her tone was irritating. But the stories were delivered with pace so it didn’t lag.

Didn't like the narration sorry

Not enough change of tone and voice was monotonous after a while so took me a long time to finish

Mediocre at best

I normally enjoy Tessa Dare’s novels, but I thought this shorter story was a bit uninspired. It wasn’t terrible, but neither was it particularly engaging. The second story was AWFUL. I guess the author was aiming for a smart, capable woman for the female lead character but instead she came off as a self-centred know it all who is easily manipulated. And the male lead was absolutely spineless. I listened to these for free as part of the plus catalogue and I still wouldn’t recommend them. They certainly aren’t worth a credit.
