Summary
His latest case has him chasing ghosts. But the murderer is flesh-and-blood hiding in the ashes....
DCI Harry Grimm is on the cusp of a stunning decision. Considering making his move to the scenic Yorkshire Dales permanent, he ends up reviewing details of a terrible car accident that killed a retired colonel's beloved wife. But when the panicked widower calls the police claiming the deceased woman's spirit is haunting him, the dedicated detective wades in to piece together a less implausible explanation.
With suspicions running high after a cabin on the property burns down, Grimm and his team are shocked to identify the scorched human remains that leave behind a twice-grieving family. And when he uncovers evidence the fire wasn't simple misfortune, the no-nonsense investigator is certain the culprit is more than a ghastly ghoul....
Can he nab the phantom killer before they vanish into thin air?
Restless Dead is the engrossing fifth book in the DCI Harry Grimm crime fiction series. If you like character-driven police procedurals, light humor, and grisly twists that keep you guessing, then you'll love David J. Gatward's burning mystery.

Grimm by name but adorable by nature
Another charming trip to the Dales to spend time with Grimm and his colleagues. My only gripe is that I felt it was a bit short. It feels like part one of a two part story. I feel as though I have skipped a few explanatory chapters here and there🤔 But I still enjoyed it.
Oh, and it needed more fruit cake and Wensleydale cheese (other treats are acceptable).
Much as I love the writing, it's Aubrey Parsons narration that makes the books for me! Such a range of accents and tones from gravelly ex soldier, through to cut glahss ladies (spelling mistake was deliberate)and
Get the next one recorded please Aubes 😉😄

Wonderful Wensleydale
Another fabulous book in this series, this time Harry and his brother have to decide whether to make Wensleydale their home, or go back 'down South'. There are several storylines including sheep rustling, a fatal car accident and some ghostly goings on. As always the characters are engaging, and the story is interesting and the descriptions of beautiful Wensleydale make me wish I was there. I also enjoy David's notes and explanations at the end of each book.
Fab narration by Aubrey Parsons - he really IS Harry Grimm :-)

Restless Dead
I would agree with other reviewers that this isn't one of Dave Gatward's best efforts, it is a little disjointed and rushed in places impo. Having said that I still enjoyed listening to it and look forward to further books in the series. I have already reviewed the next book and it is back to a top marks listen. This one has plenty going on to keep the listener glued to their seat and although the ending is a bit sudden the book as a whole does gel. I thought Aubrey Parsons once again made a great job of the narration, as a Yorkshireman myself I can be very critical of narrators who make a mess of the accent but to me Aubrey's is spot on. Keep up the good work both of you! *****

Thought I'd guessed the ending but I hadn't although I was on the same lines as the author just a little twist at the end. Bring on book 6.

Atmospheric- had me hooked!
This is my 5th Grimm book. I’ve loved them all, but I think this is perhaps the best so far. It had me hooked early on in the book and I found myself eager to get up and listen to more as I started my day. I’m really looking forward to the next one in the series!
