About this listen

Yeah, yeah, the usual. A crime. A corpse. A killer. Heard it. Except this stiff happens to be a Ponsonby, scion of a venerable Edinburgh medical clan, and the manner of his death speaks of unspeakable things. Why is the body displayed like a slice of beef? How come his hands are digitally challenged? And if it's not the corpse, what is that awful smell? A post-Thatcherite nightmare of frightening plausibility, Quite Ugly One Morning is a wickedly entertaining and vivacious thriller, full of acerbic wit, cracking dialogue, and villains both reputed and shell-suited.©1996 Christopher Brookmyre (P)2004 Time Warner AudioBooks Action & Adventure Modern Detectives Mystery Mystery, Thriller & Suspense Scary Funny Suspense Witty Fiction

Hilarious, graphic and full of swearing. I loved it. Great performance and characters, very entertaining.

Brilliant.

I have thoroughly enjoyed Christopher Brookmyre,s books All are worth downloading if you like well written humorous action packed stories, don’t hesitate. Quite ugly one morning is undoubtedly the funniest. And I was put off his other books for a while as they did not match up to ‘quite ugly’ for laughs. My mistake.

Very funny

Wouldn't normally go for an abridged book, but no other choice and TBH they didn't miss out that much. David Tennant is fabulous at his narration and works be a great actor to play Jack. Not sure why the insisted on playing synthe music at the end of each chapter, it really does nothing for the story.
So the story, very descriptive! I was listening to this and was laughing alone in my car. I'd forgotten how funny done of Christopher Brookmyres early books were. A horrific murdered Dr, set in a hospital, written by someone who really knows what it's like working for the NHS.
Would totally recommend this as long as your not put off by talk of Spew/vomit/jobbies or amputation.

Not for the easily offended.

Fairly fast paced and not drawn out like some stories. Pretty short book actually.
Classic theme. Good story. Good characters and well narrated.
Think I'll get another one now by the same author...

Entertaining and easy

The book was entertaining but the characters packed depth. Interesting twist towards the end but there could of been more suspense up to the ending. I don't think of i had been reading it instead of listening to it whether I would have enjoyed it but David Tennant is an excellent narrator and it's mainly due to his portrayal of the narrative that I kept listening.

Fairly average who done it

The 'Only Fools & Horses' of detective fiction - with un-deleted expletives! A huge belly laugh from start to finish. I can't wait for the next instalment.

Quite brilliant

I liked the story, I enjoyed David Tenants performance, but it's regularly broken up with annoying music that is jarring and often fades in over the narration. Still enjoyed it, but I'd have preferred a version without the music.

Jarring music the downside.

How does a writer make you laugh out loud when reading about a grusome murder? Easily!

So cleverly written

The book starts off with pretty graphic depictions of violence. I nearly didn’t get beyond those, but I persevered and, though there is more violence and the like in the rest of the book than I like or would usually tolerate, you’d have to say that it’s a good story, often amusingly told, and David Tennant’s performance is absolutely brilliant.

Violent, but...
