Well written with a rare uderstanding of the situation, well performed, the tension, the way a totalitarian regime affects people. It is remarkable . I had t double check if this aurthor was, like me, as refgee from a communist couty. She is not.She is just alert, sensitive and knowledgeable.

This period created the Perfect storm for terrible things to happen. The book kept me riveted, unfortunately for the wrong reasons.

This was a truly emotional heart felt story full of historical facts. The characters were well written and I was deeply invested in their journey and hardships of their lives. Thank you Margarita Morris.
The narration was also excellent and made the story really come to life for me.

being born in the early 70's I can remember the Berlin war coming down and watched the footage with great curiosity. Reading this book gave an excellent insight of what life was like from both sides of the wall, families being split up, never knowing if they would ever see or even make contact again. It's hard to believe how distressing this was to all the families and friends it impacted on. even the people free of the strict regimes on the opposing side mostly had loved ones they longed to be with once again. A truly excellent book highlighting just one example of a families heartache and bravery.

a truly awful book on every level, I can only guess this was written for teens and school children, an unbelievably simplistic plot peppered with some facts straight out of any book on the DDR , hideously biased and poorly read.There is nothing positive about this book , It got laughable when s main character just happened to be there at the iconic moment the east German border guard jumped the barbed wire.Save your soul and read any other book on the subject , it's neither a goid read nor a source if anything approaching historical interest .Just very lightweight for a teen audience and those who like a nice story without facts getting in the way.
