Summary
Shortlisted for the Booker Prize 2001.
The second novel from the critically acclaimed author of Ghostwritten and Cloud Atlas.
As Eiji Miyake's 20th birthday nears, he arrives in Tokyo with a mission - to locate the father he has never met.
So begins a search that takes him into the seething city's underworld, its lost property offices and video arcades, and on a journey that zigzags from reality to the realm of dreams. But until Eiji has fallen in love and exorcised his childhood demons, the belonging he craves will remain, tantalizingly, just beyond his grasp.

A fever dream
Started this audiobook without knowing anything about the story or the structure. It pulled me in from the start: the cast of characters, the story and above all the writing. The narration is 10/10 and intensified this feverish sense of dreaming and listening. By the end it left me longing, not for more necessarily, but for meaning, that the book delivered but left you without it at the same time.

Top marks
David Mitchell seems capable of writing stories with a totally authentic voice, whatever the genre. Having consumed the works of Haruki Murakami with a passion over the years, I don’t think I could have easily discerned Number9dream as an imposter. From my perspective that is high praise.
The narrator was a perfect choice for this book. Really excellent.

An Adventure of Grand Proportions
After listening to this novel, my brain feels it has been used in a pinball game machine. More twists and turns than a bowl of spaghetti. Brilliant and highly entertaining.

Definitely his worst moment
This book takes a long while to get anywhere, and when it does it's underwhelming.
