Summary

DCI Warren Jones has a bad feeling when the body of a young woman turns up in Beaconsfield Woods. She’s been raped and strangled but the murderer has been careful to leave no DNA evidence.

There are, of course, suspects – boyfriend, father – to check out but, worryingly, it looks more and more like a stranger murder.

Warren’s worst fears are confirmed when another young woman is killed in the same way.

The MO fits that of Richard Cameron who served twelve years for rape. But Cameron never killed his victims and he has a cast-iron alibi.

Then personal tragedy intervenes and Warren is off the case. But the pressure is mounting and another woman goes missing. Warren is back but will the break he desperately needs come before there’s another victim?

Décent story and likeable DCI

I really like this series. Chilling storylines which are to be expected, but I really like the fact that DCI Warren Jones is a decent man with no major hang ups....he loves his long suffering wife, and I hope they will stick together- there are too many series where the DCI goes home to only a ready meal & his particular music obsession. I have just downloaded book 3, so hoping for more of the same

Even better than book 1

I really enjoyed this one, good narration and the storyline is even better than The Last Straw. I was left confused about the culprit most of the way through, I think Paul did a good job with this one.

Sloppy writing

I quite enjoyed the first book in this series despite the overuse of ‘nevertheless’. In this book ‘regardless’ joins it in irritating frequency. The tension between the new DCI and the DI was interesting in the first book but they are all pals now and it takes them forever to catch the killer. It goes on and on and I think the author is just churning them out. Narrator is good and almost makes them worth listening to

poor quality

these books are underwhelming in the extreme, the style of narration id wuth an up turn at the end of every narrative sentence which doesn;t help. the characters are forgettable an the stories rely on a new witness or new revalation to get a to the turgid end

ki have had a poor run withte trying new authors recently and woould return them if the mechanism allowed me to
