Summary
At an academy attended by witches, shifters, and vampires, one student's bloodline will be their salvation...or a curse.
I've always suffered with weird visions, but nobody paid attention to my wild imagination. Not until I tried to change a future I'd seen, and a student ended up in the hospital. The school expelled me, and my parents were distraught, so my aunt offered to pay for one that could help with my "issues".
My world turned upside down when I stepped into the exclusive academy.
I expected to meet other troubled teens here, but none seem unusual. Ash is the rugby team captain and the academy's most popular guy. Then there's Andrei, the moody guy with a bad attitude who takes pleasure in annoying me. And Jamie, who's studious and friendly but intense. The only strange thing is most classes take place in the evening, and those in the "advanced program" study late at night.
With the help of my new friend Amelia, I feel at home and think I have the academy figured out. But on the evening I swear allegiance to my new school house, everything spins out of control, and I realize I'm dealing with more.
Much more.
The students and professors aren't human—I'm at an academy with vampires, witches, and shifters.
My visions of the future are real because I'm a witch.
How do I tell my new friends that one of us will die, and I know who?
Term One is the first in the Nightworld Academy series of upper YA and NA supernatural academy books and was an Amazon Top 100 in store best seller. The main characters are 18 and older, and this is a slow-burn why choose. As the series is set at a school in England, the books are written in British English.
Scroll up to start this gripping new series filled with magic, mystery, and romance from USA Today best-selling author LJ Swallow.

My Thoughts on Nightworld Academy: Term One
I’m a big fan of paranormal romance books where the setting is an academy or school. I even like that setting in books that aren’t paranormal. So that was one interesting aspect for me when I came across this series. I also really like the whole multiple supernatural races all living and learning together to promote harmony among the races. In fact, there were several things about this story that I liked and worked for me. Even if that liking built over time. One such thing was the leading lady Maeve. She kind of grew on me as the story developed but I’m not completely sold on her yet. Honestly, she comes across a bit judgmental. And while I sometimes understand what she’s saying or where she’s coming from, it comes across more harshly from someone who knows so little about what’s going on around her. But honestly that’s the main reason I’m trying to cut her some slack and not just dismiss her as unlikeable. She comes to the academy completely oblivious to the truth of her world and is thrown into a whole lot quite suddenly.
The pacing and plot of the story was pretty enjoyable and I did find that it held my attention quite easily. The “love interests” that make up the reverse harem Ash, Jamie, and Andrei were all well introduced and interesting. And I liked Maeve’s roommate Amelia as well. Another plus that helped my overall enjoyment was the really good narrator choices. Sarah L. Colton and Steve Campbell both did great jobs.
I do plan to check out book two. I was entertained enough to want to continue, and I am holding out hope that the more Maeve learns about everything, the more open she’ll be to some of the actions of those around her. I don’t need her to have a complete personality change or anything, just to not come across like her opinion is the only right one. One thing I also wish had been different was that in the description I was made aware just how slow burn this reverse harem would be. It’s basically clean and barely romance for this first story. I’m all for characters getting to know each other and taking their time, but there is barely acknowledgement of attraction and I wasn’t really expecting that at all.

Ok
This is a new to me author and narrators. There was things I liked and things that I think needed work. I did not mesh well with the lead female character. I did not think there was enough growth. I just could not get hooked on the writing style of this author. The narrators were ok, although I thought the female preformed better than the male. So overall I give this an ok, but could have been better, so many miss opportunities to give more details and have stronger world building.

Enjoyable
Nightworld Academy: Term One by LJ Swallow is a new upper YA/NA series of magic academy books that I listened to on audio narrated by Sarah Colton and Steve Campbell.
This is the first book of LJ’s that I have read and it definitely won’t be my last. The story does end on a cliffhanger so I can’t wait to dive into Nightworld Academy: Term Two.
Sarah and Steve did an amazing job on the narration. They really made the story come to life with their accents and tones for each character.

Nightworld Academy
Great story full of suspense. High school is bad enough but add supernaturals to the mix and it's a whole new ball game. New author for me and I definitely want to see what happens next with these characters.
Loved the narrators and how the brought each of these characters and personalities to life.

I’ll listen to the second but...
I loved the idea of this book but there were a lot of bug plot holes and it didn’t captivate me the way others have. Maeve was a bit unrelatable and whiny. I understand she was kind of thrown into the world but she was a bit slow on the uptake for a lot of things. It seemed odd to me that she wasn’t given more of an explanation on things when she was first dropped off at the academy and definitely made me hate her parents for just dropping her off even when her mom knew she could have powers. I hope Maeve turns into a stronger character because I think the storyline has a lot of potential.

Great narration!
A fast-paced paranormal Academy Romance and a main character with an unusual, intriguing talent!
Both narrators were new to me and I was very impressed with Steve Campbell. He narrated each guys' chapters in a clearly distinguishable voice.
Sarah Colton also did a fantastic narration. The whiny, breathless voice she used at times was a bit less enjoyable. But it absolutely fits the main character.
I would have liked it, had the main character been just a little bit more of a badass (fitting the paranormal setting) or a little wiser and centered (fitting her gift as a seer). I also didn't quite understand why the school did so little to introduce her into the world of supernaturals.
That being said, overall, I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to continuing this series.

Enjoyable listen withroom for improvement
This is a good start to a new series I find something redeeming in most of the characters and something likeable in many. There is a really good main plot along with other small plots. Well written and intriguing, I am enjoying this series. I am not loving the narration that is somewhat inconsistent with voices that sound too alike to be recognisably distinct, and an overly plummy accent that remind me of old war movies.
