Summary

Zombies in North London, death cults in the West Country, the engineering deck of the Enterprise: actor, comedian, writer, and self-proclaimed supergeek Simon Pegg has been ploughing some bizarre furrows in recent times. Having blasted on to the small screen in the gut-busting and now legendary sitcom Spaced, his enduring appeal and rise to nation’s-favourite-son status has been mercurial, meteoric, megatronic, but mostly just plain great.

From his childhood (and subsequently adult) obsession with science fiction, his enduring friendship with Nick Frost, and his forays into stand-up comedy which began with his regular Monday morning slot in front of his 12-year-old classmates, Simon has always had a severe and dangerous case of the funnies.

So, sit back, relax, and let Simon Pegg and his faithful robotic butler Canterbury take you on a spectacular journey of self-discovery. (Or, take this book to school and swap it for something cooler…) Dotted with a cast of memorable characters who have helped shape the life and career of a complex, dynamic and unstoppable man, Nerd Do Well is the joyous tale of a home-grown superstar and a local boy made good.

Made me laugh

It was too short, obviously. I just wanted more. May be nerd of the dead is the sequel

Entertaining & clever

Really enjoyed listening to this book. The juxtaposition of autobiography with the fictional tale of a hunky James Bond-style hero was highly entertaining and SP read it perfectly. I just wish it had been longer!

Nerd did well.

If you’re a Pegg fan this is a must. Read the book years ago, but prefer listening to SP reading it to me. Very good.

Funny, heartwarming and informative

I hugely enjoy Simon Peggs work, a lot of this is down to his geeky sense of humour and this is consistent throughout this book. There are a lot of interesting and funny anecdotes and a reference to some really interesting people he has met along the way. Would strongly recommend if you enjoy autobiographies.

Extremely Entertaining

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Most of my friends are geeky and nerdy like myself and they would get a kick out of all the classic film references and stories

Nerd Do Well

Really enjoyed this audiobook, light going some great Simon Pegg humor, did not follow the normal style of an autobiography but was a great listen.

Just fantastic...

I laughed, I cried, I loved this. My first ever autobio and I wonder if any other could ever live up to it. Simon P is a gem; hilarious, witty, caring, ohhhh, gush gush, he's a genuine lovely guy and he takes you along on the amazing journey his life has taken so far with a fabby snort-fest sci-fi story sandwiched between the 'real' stuff. Finished it... started listening to it all over again. Fantabulous!

Good but more style over substance

I’m a fan of Simon pegg. He’s a brilliant comedy writer, actor and performer without question and I was looking forward to listening to this. However, although Simon narrated it as superbly as expected (this guy is seriously talented with comic timing) the content was more diluted than informative. Some of the writing felt more like an exercise in technical literature expertise and a little pretentious rather than hearty storytelling. The creation of Canterbury the automaton was a cracking bit of comedy creativity but should have been standalone as a comedy podcast never in this memoir. The Canterbury stuff was virtually half the book so little left for his real life. Even then the actual memoir parts were ok at best, but never really open and in depth. Simon always comes across as a decent grounded bloke, but I felt he missed the point and didn’t do this well enough. His best mate Nick Frost, by contrast, did a far better job with his memoir Truth,lies...which was open, funny, laddish, gritty and yet very relatable and more importantly written without pretentious technical goals. It flowed throughout with down to earth writing drawing you into his life. Just my honest opinion folks...get Nicks book it’s superb.
