About this listen

When a man’s naked corpse is found strapped to a waterwheel, newly appointed Inspector Haze is called upon to investigate the crime. With the help of American surgeon Captain Redmond, he delves into the life of Frank Darrow, a man who inspired such hatred, his mere death wasn’t enough to satisfy his killer.

Finding few clues and no obvious motive for the murder, Redmond and Haze must peel away the layers of Frank Darrow’s relationships to get to the shocking truth, while also coming to terms with unexpected developments in their own lives.

Perfect for fans of C.S. Harris and Anne Perry.

Characters are we rounded & likeable. criminals are proper nasties, stories flow brilliantly & always satisfy. Only complaint is there aren't more than the 4 already on here!

I adore this series!

I enjoyed the different red herrings thrown into the story. Certainly kept me listening to the story. To a certain extent the outcome was quite a surprise. I'm really enjoying learning about the social history in these books.

Certainly a book to keep you listening

The 1921 Marriage Act made it legal to marry for a man to marry his brothers widow, until then it was illegal. So that shot the plot to blazes. It was, however only the worst of the bloomers perpetuated. I nearly gave up listening but I started a game of “ there goes another one” which was far more entertaining than the book. Thank goodness it was a freebie.

What a shame the author didn’t bother to research the law.
