Excellent Listen.

This is a very enjoyable listen. Told over 2 timelines, the first 1985 when a sister and brother flee war torn El Salvador to try and get to America. It tells of the trials and tribulations they face including being robbed on more than one occasion, Corrupt border forces, as they travel through different countries with the people smugglers. Then 1995 when 5 bodies are discovered in a house and the mother is missing, This is all building up in to a fast action fascinating plot that our heroine detective must try to solve. Highly recommended and I hope to listen to the previous books in this series at some point. Cassandra Arnold's was spot on and brought everything to life.
I was kindly given a copy of the book by the author and leave this honest review.

good listen

The two timeliness kept me guessing throughout and it was very engaging
I wanted to know what happened and why. yes, some of the sex scenes were unnecessary but others added to the narrative.

the narration really suited the story

"A dream to die for."

Faye-Lynn and her partner are called to a terrible scene - the death of a father and his four murdered children. But the mother was missing. Mercedes had entered the U.S. Illegally when only a young teenager - had she returned to her parental home, moved somewhere else, or was it more sinister than that? The reader is guided to a final resolution through present and past timelines and the points of view of both Faye Lynn and others. It is a sad, at times harrowing tale, well told with an authentic feel.
Many of the characters from previous books in the series are there
Again read by Cassandra Arnold thankfully sounding somewhat less robotic, this is definitely still a reading rather than a performance, giving the book a more newsreel feel. Some sex scenes included.

My thanks to the rights holders of Murder at the Heights who, at my request, freely gifted me with a complimentary copy. Despite certain reservations, I have enjoyed this whole series and, especially this title. Recommended to all crime story readers who enjoy a more realistic feel to their books
