About this listen
She’s hard up. He’s just hard.... After an ill-fated one-night stand, Wyatt Landry was the last person I ever expected to see again. By design, mind you, as I spent the last two years avoiding him. He was only ever meant to be a good time - a really good time - and now, thanks to one teensy little mistake, he’s back in my life and wielding an entirely different set of tools.
It’s not like I intentionally hired a bogus contractor to redo our chapel, and Lord knows I never imagined Wyatt would ride up in his pickup truck, like a knight in thigh-hugging blue jeans, to save the day. But here he is, and to make matters worse, he’s every bit as charming as I remember, and before I can fully process his reappearance in my life, he has my six-year-old daughter wrapped around his finger, my parents eating out of the palm of his hand, and my best friend shipping us like we’re some celebrity couple.
Thankfully, working in the death industry, I’ve mastered the skill of compartmentalization. Keeping my growing feelings tucked away should be a piece of cake. Except, seeing him every day definitely throws a wrench in that plan. Before I know it, we’re trading favors for dates, and as much I don’t want to admit it, the feelings for him I thought were dead and buried are taking root and growing into something that looks a lot like love. Daigle Family Funeral Services...don’t be caught dead any place else.

You won’t get too emotional about the various deaths in the story, because none of them concern the main characters–except past death, but you won’t get a lot of drama about it. Though, because empathy is a real thing, you may experience some sadness through Whitney–though she’s in constant contact with death, she still has deep feelings. And still, this morbid atmosphere is also the source of most of the laughs you’ll experience! Prissy, Whitney’s daughter, has such a nonchalant attitude that she’ll keep you entertained–I found her a bit annoying at times though.
As for the romance, it’s one without real drama. The story is about the slow building of Whitney and Wyatt’s relationship, from a simple annoyance to a very emotional happy ending. There’s no conflict here, just two people learning about each other. And you’ll looooove Wyatt. He’s almost perfect, with just enough sass to not make him a sissy–he’s a manly man in touch with his feelings.
I quite enjoyed this very original, extra swoony, a little bit sexy, romcom.
The narrators were almost perfectly cast. The female narrator did an amazing job, her voices for all characters were spot on. I felt the male narrator lacked a bit of the playfulness I associated with Wyatt, but he also did a great job. Both narrators translated the energy and humor of the story.
You may die from all the swooning

🎧📚🎧 And for the fabulous narration, Joe Arden and Vanessa Edwin are mega talented narrators and voice artists. They had a complete understanding of the characters they portrayed, gave each a voice that fit the character’s persona to a tee, sounding believable and just as I pictured the characters to sound. Joe Arden played Wyatt’s role with perfection, Vanessa Edwin did the same for Whitney, Prissy’s role was adorably done, too. Both were fantastic at performing the roles of the secondary character as well. These entertaining storytellers are a pleasure to listen to and their narration enhances an already amazing story to another level. Thank you for another exceptional listen.

Wyatt is deliciously drawn but Whitney - I didn't get her being a funeral director at the age of 22, especially with a 6 year old daughter?! What about dad and mum who worked at the funeral home? It just didn't make sense to me!
Prissy was a very sassy 6 year old and not sure whether she was a bit too old for the age she was supposed to be. I loved Rufus turning into Tinsel and the relationship between Wyatt and Prissy.
It was quite amusing but not laugh out loud hilarious. There was a lack of chemistry and the story just didn't seem to go anywhere, so much so that I got bored at 50%.
Another contributing factor was that I had just read a terrific book and this felt under par!
Shame!
a bit boring!
