Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

There is a dark side to this very, very humorous book and the author never lets the characterisation drift into admiration - which he could have. My daughter (university age) also found the book a brilliant offering.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Look Who's Back?

When Hitler receives hi first incoming call on his mobile - I nearly had to stop the car for laughter.

A lot of laughter, loads of chuckles and some revulsion as well (ref my comments above).

Bizarre But Brilliant

Vermes and Rhind-Tutt do a fantastic job of portraying a convincing Hitler, as a man rather than a monster and all the more dangerous for it. I particularly liked the way Vermes portrays Hitler in his own voice as convinced of his own absolute consistency while at the same time having him subtly but blatantly contradict himself throughout the course of his monologue. He does a great job of putting forward a version of Hitler that feels human and who is capable of being very convincing in his arguments, but without losing many of the flaws the real man clearly had.

Very clever premise for a book. Hitler wakes up in 2011 and just carries on being Hitler. The Germans think that it is satire. It seems to me that the author has researched Hitler very thoroughly, enabling him to get inside Hitler’s head. This is both amusing and enlightening. The notes at the end of the book about the real characters and organisations involved helped place it in a wider context. Well worth a listen

The first truly original concept for a book in ages. However the idea of people not believing he was really Hitler lasted a long long time and never developed as I was hoping it was. Some excellent commentary on modern day Europe.

Very well narrated. It's an interesting concept that not everyone will feel comfortable reading. It probes some interesting social issues. Also very funny in places. Intentionally so.

I loved this book. Hitler is brilliantly performed, and the author's insights into the lunatic's mind seem frighteningly realistic, especially when coupled with the choice of language and the metaphors that Hitler peppers his narration with. The plot won't grip you, but it doesn't need to; the humour stems from the former fuhrer trying to apply his unique way of thinking in today's society, surrounded by computers, TVs, smartphones and the internet, as well as today's enlightened citizens who REALLY want to know what his 'real' name is. Just don't mention the war.
