About this listen

Sir Peter Ustinov's beautifully crafted autobiography is told with exquisite wit and insight. From his birth in April 1921, it spans his extraordinary career as actor, playwright, film star, and director, confirming his early belief that he is 'irrevocably betrothed to laughter'. Ustinov's renowned gift for mimicry is exploited to the full in Dear Me. Eccentric relatives, school masters, sergeant majors, and manic Hollywood moguls are all brought unforgettably to life.©1997 Peter Ustinov (P)2004 Penguin Audio Entertainment & Celebrities Entertainment & Performing Arts Celebrity Funny Witty Military War Imperialism

Such an interesting and funny man. This book was written in 1977, so missed out the last 27 years of his life. Sir Peter was the Stephen Fry of my youth, the person you'd invite for dinner. I grew up listening to many of the anecdotes that are in the book from his numerous appearances on Parkinson. Listening to this on audible allowed for his accents, many fluent languages and impersonations to come out how he intended.

Before Stephen Fry there was Sir Peter

I found it interesting and entertaining, as Peter always is on interview/talk shows. He is a storyteller who is a joy to listen to.

Would I listen to the audiobook again? Yes, I read the book back in the 90's and this is the second time that I have listened to the audiobook.

An enjoyable, entertaining read/listen.

From an interesting family back ground with an amazing talent. My only criticism is the way he underplays his brilliance and enormous intelligence. It is defiantly worth a listen.

A very clever man

Brilliantly written. Top draw raconteur. All book clubs should include this title.

I enjoyed the voices and perspectives of Ustinov as he leads us from his birth and childhood to adulthood. It allowed me to appreciate the influences and family background that lead to him being such a fine raconteur (all, naturally, told through vignette anicdotes!).

I'm a fan of Ustinov performances - particularly his pleasure in having an audience and 'upping' his game to match the reaction. This reading doesn't have that element, so is somewhat subdued for it.

Still enjoyable and informative.

In the Spirit of Ustinov!
