About this listen

A Warhammer 40,000 Novel

A decorated Lieutenant of the Ultramarines recognises the signs of an imminent Tyranid attack, and launches a desperate counter-offensive to save Regium, a proud Imperial world.

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

The Imperium fights for its very existence against a threat unlike any other in the galaxy, and a Tyranid invasion beyond any yet experienced.

THE STORY

'The dream...it is a portent...of the end.'

The fortress world of Regium has a proud history, For millennia, it has endured when others have fallen to ruin and damnation, standing defiant in defence of the Imperium of Man. But now it is shaken. Parasitic plagues run rampant, and Regium's citizens are haunted by dreams of horrific monsters feasting upon their flesh and marrow.

Lieutenant Castamon of the Ultramarines recognises these signs of an impending Tyranid invasion all too well. Rallying his warriors, the battle-hardened veteran launches a strike force to slaughter the xenos in the outer system, before it can reach Regium. But as this new tendril of Hive Fleet Leviathan proves unpredictable and deadly, Castamon and the First Company must harness all their skill, might, and zeal, or face utter annihilation.

Written by Darius Hinks. Read by Theo Solomon. Running time is 12 hours and 14 minutes (approx).

Shame about the narrator. Must not skimp on narrators, otherwise solid story, yes good nice

Good story nice and grim and dark

Great story

Compared to other stories I have listened to like the Godblight and Devastation of Baal series this book was quite slow and when it did pick up it was amazing but those points were a long time into the book still worth a listen as it’s an important part of the lore if you care about that stuff

Great narration but slow story

The story is absolutely fine and it's starting a whole new view of the nids, and they are certainly starting to get even more scary.

But the narrator makes 90% of the characters sound the same and swaps his voices of the same characters during conversations, so it can be very hard to tell who's who. a few different and consistent accents would be nice, they either sound timid and afraid, confident or just weird in a way if it's female. like really most are so timid and squeaky.

But a good story again worth a listen either way.

Good story, not the best narrator.

Could tell the narrator was trying to do different voices for all the characters yet nearly all of them sound the same somehow and it gets confusing telling people apart. Solid story, would just recommend paying that little bit extra attention so you don't get lost in the bad narration.

Great story, Narrator was kinda bad though

Story built really well and combined the different sub story’s to a dramatic conclusion. The narration gave a different take on the usual pompous Space Marine voices and made them slightly more human, great work!

Very engrossing

Great story however the lack of Tyranid knowledge from the Ultramarines in this was odd (not knowing bioform names etc). Other than that well worth a listen.

Great Tyranid Invasion Story

I thought this book was going to do something to take the overall plot arc of 40k forward with the nids featuring heavily in the current edition. This book should really have been part of the spare marine battles series. A couple of interesting developments with tyranid biology but overall not upto the standard of other black library books.

Below Average

Great 40K tale to listen to while you hobby.
Okay the narration, not hot, I mean listen to the Ultramarines warcry … it was like listening to the chipmunks ! Yea the narration was bad at points. The story is entertaining but the vocals defo needs work.

Tyranids in your head!

The story is ok, it has some of the usual stupid choices being done to further the plot like in most BL books, but other then that it is fine. The voice acting is another subject, it pulls the whole audiobook down. Theo Solomon has a lovely voice, but he keeps making all the characters sound like whiny nagging old grandmothers, even the Ultramarines.

This kept bringing me out of the immersion and he did it a lot. So frequently that I started waiting for it to happen and some of the joy of listening faded. This is one of those books that you should probably read by yourself and not listen to.

Ok story, bad acting
