About this listen

With the acclaimed Temeraire novels, New York Times bestselling author Naomi Novik has created a fantasy series like no other. Now, with LEAGUE OF DRAGONS, Novik brings the imaginative tour-de-force that has captivated millions to an unforgettable finish.

Napoleon’s invasion of Russia has been roundly thwarted. But even as Capt. William Laurence and the dragon Temeraire pursue the retreating enemy through an unforgiving winter, Napoleon is raising a new force, and he’ll soon have enough men and dragons to resume the offensive. While the emperor regroups, the allies have an opportunity to strike first and defeat him once and for all – if internal struggles and petty squabbles don’t tear them apart.

Aware of his weakened position, Napoleon has promised the dragons of every country – and the ferals, loyal only to themselves – vast new rights and powers if they fight under his banner. It is an offer eagerly embraced from Asia to Africa – and even by England, whose dragons have long rankled at their disrespectful treatment.

But Laurence and his faithful dragon soon discover that the wily Napoleon has one more gambit at the ready – one that that may win him the war, and the world.

It's been a companion for months, this series, all of it. Loved it, entirely.

Beautiful characterisation. I loved the way she explores the world through these characters and makes it clear who and what they are and are about.

I've more to add, for a later edit. Just wanted this review up soonest.

Also love the voices by Simon Vance!

Fantastic series, very sad to have finished

Fantastic end to the series, even if i wouldve preferred to experience the final battle between temeraire and his nemesis on page, i get this book is more about the characters than the battles

Loved it

As with the rest of the series, the voice acting and story is outstanding, I never got bored due to excellent pacing that leaves the unnecessary out and gives thrilling twists throughout.

A fitting end to a wonderful series

I've so enjoyed the whole Temeraire series, the characterisation of the dragons and the regular characters kept me coming back to listen again and again as Temeraire and Laurence traveled the world while fighting the Napoleonic war.
Is this the end? I do hope not, I feel sure Naomi Novik should send the inseparable pair to America at least for further draconic adventures.

Loved the narration, the whole series is highly recommended

The end of the series?

I had to listen to last part twice as i couldn’t work out how they won the final battle. But aside from that i enjoyed it and liked the peaceful happy end.

Bit rushed at the end

There’s so much to love about this series. The characters are amazing, the story just keeps getting better, and Simon Vance’s narration is fantastic. I’ve listened to them all twice now, and all I can say if that I wish Naomi Novik would write more… genuinely think Temeraire is my favourite ever character in any novel series.

My favourite series, and an amazing ending

I loved this series when I read it and have thoroughly enjoyed listening to it all over the last few months. Brilliant voice acting, great story telling - a real joy. Mixing history and fantasy this has been a wonderful journey to travel on.

A series like no other

From the very first sentence in the very first book, I have been gripped by this epic tale of Temeraire. It is not often that a story grips me so completely and quickly, it usually takes a good chapter or two. An interesting take on fantasy, having dragons in a military setting about 200 years ago in the world we live, with places we know.

Naomi Novik has done a wonderful job of creating a truly amazing world with the most wonderful and interesting characters. One cannot help but feel their trials, sadness in failure, and joys in success, as if you were experiencing it yourself. You will soon find yourself yearning to find out what is to come next.

I can't count the amount of times I have smiled and laughed out loud while listening to the series.

This is a very difficult series to put down and even harder to say goodbye. I do wish there was more.... I feel I could happily escape to this world for the rest of my days.

I'm only sad to reach the end
