About this listen
From fan-favorite Scarlett St. Clair, the bestselling author of the Hades & Persephone series, comes a new fantasy filled with danger, darkness, and insatiable romance.
Their union is his revenge.
Isolde de Lara considers her wedding day to be her death day. To end a years-long war, she is to marry vampire king Adrian Aleksandr Vasiliev, and kill him.
But her assassination attempt is thwarted, and Adrian threatens that if Isolde tries to kill him again, he will raise her as the undead. Faced with the possibility of becoming the thing she hates most, Isolde seeks other ways to defy him and survive the brutal vampire court.
Except it isn't the court she fears most—it's Adrian. Despite their undeniable chemistry, she wonders why the king—fierce, savage, merciless—chose her as consort.
The answer will shatter her world.
Contains mature themes.

The twist in the end elevates the whole book. Though the foreshadowing pretty much drowns in the spice.

The whole book feels lazy and half-baked. The writer seems scared to lean into her lore and storytelling and relies on the *spice* far too much. The whole relationship between Isolde and Adrian feels extremely rushed despite plot elements which are clumsily foreshadowed and ultimately easy to guess. The writer relies on telling the reader that her characters are “monsters” but really nothing they do ever seems very evil.
But it was entertaining and I wouldn’t begrudge it as a free book if it does get added to the library, wouldn’t use a credit on it though.
Plot gets lost in… other things
