Summary

When Amanda Boudreau is raped and murdered, it's small-time black hustler Tee Bobby Hulin's prints that are found at the crime scene. Tee Bobby pleads innocence, but then attempts suicide in his holding cell. Why? Lawyer Perry LaSalles takes on the defence, but his motives are fuelled by guilt.

Best one yet

Kept you guessing all the way. Complex and with just enough tension to keep you going. Love the detail incidental description of the surrounding. You can feel and smell the atmosphere.

Another Great Read From James Lee

Another very enjoyable read/listen. Great story, great characters and what I love most of all, a fabulous sense of place. JLB really brings Louisiana and New Orleans alive with wonderful rich descriptions from the bayou's to the weather to the food and many more aspects relating to the region. I alternated reading the book and listening to the audio book and I have to agree, the narration wasn't the best...but...I guess it is true to the style of the book and didn't spoil the listen in any way.

Burke is the master

Loved it. Definitely one of the best series out there, Burke and Connelly rule. Get it

Marvellous. As expected from James Lee Burke

Marvellous. As expected from a James Lee Burke novel. Excellent narration. Excellent storyline. And a tense conclusion.

One of the best stories, definitely the worst narrator

The story is intriguing and wonderfully well-written. The narrator is awful. It’s like it was his first time or he was just reading it off the page. Really awful. Hope they can re-record it at some point.

Great story, great characters. Second time around and I wasn't scared of Legion this time! Ok well maybe a wee bit 🤦‍♀️

Disappointing audio book

If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?

The story was very long winded, I felt there was not much of a story line and was padded out to try and make the story work. I have read a few of James Lee Burke's books and this is the first that I have not enjoyed.

What will your next listen be?

A discovery of witches by Deborah Harkness

Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Mark Hammer?

Not sure, I don't think anyone could have this book interesting for me.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Jolie Blon's Bounce?

Too much to say.

Any additional comments?

Don't recommend this book.
