Who would you believe is capable of murder: the man you almost married or the man whose life you saved?
British soldier, Aimee Price, is hailed as a hero for saving a man’s life. But traumatic flashbacks of the explosion, and a loss of confidence, force her to hide from the limelight.
Twelve years later, Jones, the man she saved, is arrested for a murder he claims he didn’t commit. Can she believe him when she has a history with the victim and Jones has a tendency for violence?
Aimee must discover the truth, even if it means losing her job, all while trying to live a normal life and start dating again.

Fabulous from start to finish
What a find. I have never read one of Jessica Huntley’s books. For sure this won’t be the last. She is a clever writer. Sucking the reader in and compels you to want more. I listened to this on audio and the narration complimented the authors work to make it a 5 star book. Can’t wait to try another.

Interesting perspective into the aftermath of an army life
3.5 ⭐ rounded to 4.
I don’t know how I feel after listening to this audiobook, because I don’t think it was really a thriller, at least not what I consider a thriller to be.
Even if I have to say it kept me interested throughout and I was eager to keep listening, I think it was more like a memoir/romance packaged into a mystery.
The main protagonist Aimee Price is an ex-soldier who 12 years prior, after a war accident, struggled to function personally and in society, left with deep physical and mental scars. The only positive thing about that accident is that she managed to save her colleague Jones, although he doesn’t see it that way.
Amidst all of this, straight after her recovery she started a relationship with her army doctor and 2 days before they were due to marry, broke up with him. Now 12 years later, her ex fiance has been murdered and her ex colleague (whom she saved) has reappeared. Are the two things connected?
The book has a dual timeline with events in the past informing events in the present, helping the reader connect some of the dots. The murder in this story though, is not really the main focus, but Aimee’s path toward recovery is. The deep dive into the life of a female soldier was really interesting and eye opening, as well as the difficulty of coming back into society after a life threatening war accident.
The themes dealt in this book are very serious and dark, like suicide, abortion, inability to have children and mental illness, but I truly believe the author did an amazing job portraying them in an empathic way.
So, although I don’t think this was a thriller, I did enjoy it and I’m willing to read more from Jessica Huntley. There are also several tropes that some people might like, like second chance and enemies to lovers.
Thanks to the author for the opportunity to listen to it and this is my honest opinion.

fun whodunit
A very enjoyable thriller and whodunit. I enjoyed the time jump aspect as the characters were fleshed out, and found them very likeable. Would read more by Jessica Huntley.
