From where I stand in the shadows outside the pub I own, I can already tell what mood my husband’s in and it makes me want to stay exactly where I am. However, I can also see my bar manager, Jay. Sexy, young and exciting, he’s the person who’s going to set me free from my middle-aged monotony.
I’m dreading turning fifty more than I’ve dreaded any other birthday in my life. Now that my kids are at university, the prospect of spending the rest of my life with my bullying, balding and boring husband is a miserable one.
Which is why I employed Jay. He gives me the reason I need to get up, to go on and to look forward.
And I’ll do anything to keep him.
He’s due to go travelling in a few days and wants me to go with him.
Every part of me screams to begin the new year as I mean to continue – by leaving the old behind in favour of the new. But I have a major obstacle to overcome.
Bryn. Since he’s discovered my affair, he’s realised how much he’ll lose.
And he’ll do anything to prevent me from leaving.
He’s hatching a plan for the New Year party we’re having at the pub this evening. But what he doesn’t know is that I’ve got one too. It’s just a matter of which one of us will go first.
Either of us could be the victim of what’s going to happen as the clock ticks into New Year’s Day.
And either of us could be responsible for it.

An excellent listen
This is a new author to me and a new narrator too but not likely to be the last. I enjoyed the story from start to finish, well written with a good pace and great narration. The characters were believable though not all are likeable. Not quite my usual type of novel but definitely well worth a listen.

Good story, maybe a little bit predictable
I enjoyed the book. It was a good story. I didn’t like the narrator not for this book. I didn’t like the changes in the voice but overall I would recommend.

Another great read written by Maria Frankland and narrated by Jenny Myers.
The story was a page turner and full of content. Jenny did an excellent job of the narration.

Interesting story and listen
Maria Frankland always delivers domestic thrillers and the narrator really suited the story (first time listening to this narrator). I listened to the story over a few afternoons - loved the ending as always as she always throws in a twist.

thriller
I loved the narration of Jenny Myers, who brings out the suspense and trills.
This a psychological thriller, with great suspense. Debra, is hitting 50 and menopausal. Married to Bryn and is unhappy in the marriage of 24 years. Wanting to leave with Jay, her bar manger. Jay is young enough to be her son. Bryn does not sit back and he starts planning back against Debra and Jay. This is a wild ride! I did not see that ending coming

lovely twisty listen
I loved listening to this book had some great twists and turns and oh boy karma played her devilish part!! would definitely recommend for an easy entertaining listen!!

A Good first book.
I enjoyed this book although it was a little more romantic than I like. The story is quite good if a little predictable but very easy to listen to. I have listened to book 2 as well and this is a good foundation for it. Jenny Myers narration was spot on with plenty of different voices for the characters, Overall highly Recommended.
I was kindly given a copy of the book and leave this honest review.
