About this listen
Since his first performance at the legendary New York nightclub Catch a Rising Star as a twenty-one-year-old student in autumn of 1975, Jerry Seinfeld has written his own material and saved everything. 'Whenever I came up with a funny bit, whether it happened on a stage, in a conversation, or working it out on my preferred canvas – the big yellow legal pad – I kept it in one of those old-school accordion folders,' Seinfeld writes. 'So I have everything I thought was worth saving from forty-five years of hacking away at this for all I was worth.'
For this book, Jerry Seinfeld has selected his favourite material, organised decade by decade. In page after hilarious page, one brilliantly crafted observation after another, readers will witness the evolution of one of the great comedians of our time and gain new insights into the thrilling but unforgiving art of writing stand-up comedy.©2020 Jerry Seinfeld (P)2020 Simon & Schuster, Inc.

I am a British comedy connoisseur & I believe Seinfeld to be the best sitcom of all time.
But admittedly I had never fully got why Jerry Seinfeld is held in such high regard as a stand-up - until this audiobook.
Being British I have simply not been able to follow his stand-up career*. This book allowed me to chronologically follow his career in terms of his favourite bits of writing coupled with background information.
I really like the way Jerry reads his bits out - it had my cracking up in public.
How much would it cost to pay Jerry to spend over 6 hours taking you through his career and performing the cream of his material? I mean one on one?
This book does that for at a fraction of the cost. I am really grateful for the book. It feels like Jerry is talking to you just like he would if you met him and he went through all of this especially for you.
I now finally fully 'get' Jerry's style and can better appreciate his work, career and indeed the sitcom.
Bravo.
* Lots - well most - of this material was new to me.
I must step in here . . .

It's not a biography like I was hoping for!

It was a joyful experience, which only could have been improved by dropping all the obnoxious titles and stringing everything together into a proper set for each decade... wouldn't have been THAT hard. You can tune them out after a while. The "bits" themselves are timeless classics and the narration suitably committed.
"So what's the deal with audiobooks?"
