About this listen

Based in a mining village in Wales at the turn of the 19th century, How Green Was My Valley catches the impossible dilemmas that were created in society's irreversible shift from pastoral to industrial through Huw, the youngest son of seven.

Loyalty, education, economics and manhood are examined in this pre union tightly knit mining community. Sentimentalised with lots of atmosphere this is a moving account of an important chapter in British history that affects every corner of the world.

Our Hollywood Stage presentation stars Walter Pidgeon.

What a total waste of money. The sound quality is appalling. Sort out this inaudible recording, Audible! Total rip off.

INAUDIBLE. TERRIBLE QUALITY

Soundtrack of the old film. Not the usual standard. Thank God that was cheap to buy

Disappointing

What disappointed you about How Green Was My Valley?

So disappointed as can't hear the words spoken ...muffled sound makes words indistinguishable for me.

Any additional comments?

don't think I'll try anymore of these as you can't tune it at all.

How hard to hear is this voice?

Dear Audible - this book isn't audible, to anyone else who is planning to buy it please don't. Check out the sample, unlike me. If I had i wouldn't be writing this review because I wouldn't have bought it. Audible, I'm shocked that you're selling such a very poor recording. If I can find a way of asking for a refund i will. Not fit for purpose in any way, don't waste your time and money.

Inaudible - truly terrible

This is a movie and NOT a book. Totally disappointed and surprised by the misleading promotion of this on thee Amazon site.

Not what we wanted

Utterly inaudible and not a reading of this wonderful book, but just of minor excerpts from the Hollywood dramatisation.
The only poor product I’ve had from Audible.

This should not be sold

Sound quality so bad I couldn’t decipher a word and gave up very quickly. How do I get a refund?

Hugely disappointing

I made the mistake of not listening to the sample before purchasing.
One minute was to long to listen!

Impossible to listen to.

I should have realised this wasn’t an Audiobook when i saw it was read by Walter Pidgeon the actor from the Golden Era of Hollywood who starred in the film of the same name but died in 1984. This is in fact a Lux Radio Broadcast from November 1942. It is performed by some of the actors from the highly successful film adaptation in 1941. It should NOT be confused with an Audiobook and this should have been stated in the library. It is a curiosity in itself if you are interested in Golden Era Hollywood and wish to listen to this head over to YouTube where this and many other Lux Theatre Productions are completely free. But as i say again - NOT an Audiobook!

This isn’t an Audiobook!

This is a very bad foreshortening of the dialogue of the 1941 film.
Several of the important parts of the story are completely omitted.
The sound quality is lousy. A very bad treatment of this excellent story.

A terrible version
