About this listen

When Josie Jensen, an awkward 13-year-old musical prodigy, crashes headlong into newcomer Samuel Yazzie, an 18-year-old Navajo boy full of anger and confusion, an unlikely friendship blooms. Josie teaches Samuel about words, music, and friendship, and along the way finds a kindred spirit. Upon graduation, Samuel abandons the sleepy, small town in search of a future and a life, leaving his young mentor behind.

Many years go by and Samuel returns, finding his old friend in need of the very things she offered him years before. Their roles reversed, Samuel teaches Josie about life, love, and letting go. Deeply romantic and poignant, Running Barefoot is the story of a small-town girl and a Native American boy, the ties that bind them to their homes and families, and the love that gives them wings.

I have read this book several times and I still love it just as much as I did the first time. it is my comfort book. it is a beautiful sweet love story with very lovable characters. josie and samuel are one of my all time favorite book couples. the way Amy harmon writes about josie and her music acctualy makes me hear the music. there is quite a lot of religious content as both of the main characters believe in God and have been raised with beliefs.I have never been the slightest bit religious but I still love the story. I very much enjoyed hearing about the navajo legends and customs from samuel.

one of my favorite books

Coming of age romance that often quite moving. Not my favourite of hers but worth a listen

Character driven

The narrator was fine, I just found it annoying and irritating when it came to male voices, where the narrator had to "masculinize" her voice. Though it helped with the contrast, but I'd rather have a male narrator do male voices.

I found this book truly heartwarming, very well performed and intelligent. I highly recommend it. The narration was great, the characters adorable and it is an excellent, well paced story. I was fine with the inserted male voices. Give it a chance you really won’t be disappointed
