About this listen
The stunning third book in the sexy, action-packed Crescent City series, following the global best sellers House of Earth and Blood and House of Sky and Breath.
Bryce Quinlan never expected to see a world other than Midgard, but now that she has, all she wants is to get back. Everything she loves is in Midgard: her family, her friends, her mate. Stranded in a strange new world, she's going to need all her wits about her to get home again. And that's no easy feat when she has no idea whom to trust.
Hunt Athalar has found himself in some deep holes in his life, but this one might be the deepest of all. After a few brief months with everything he ever wanted, he's in the Asteri's dungeons again, stripped of his freedom and without a clue as to Bryce's fate. He's desperate to help her, but until he can escape the Asteri's leash, his hands are quite literally tied.
In this sexy, breathtaking sequel to the number one best sellers House of Earth and Blood and House of Sky and Breath, Sarah J. Maas' Crescent City series reaches new heights as Bryce and Hunt's world is brought to the brink of collapse—with its future resting on their shoulders.

I enjoyed listening and recommend any J Maas fan to read this book.
I have to say that the complicated world building and many characters take away from the romance and story a bit. I wasn’t as invested in the male love interest as I’m usually am in a Maas books.
All in all a great fantasy book masterfully written.
Overall a solid last book of a series

How can an author just keep getting better? I don't know, but we should definitely ask and hail the queen SJM.
I waited for so long for this book that I was half giddy/half scared.
Crescent City 2 IS my Roman Empire. It is THE BOOK.
So yes, going into this my expectations were super high and I was scared to be disappointed. But giiiirl, SJM doesn't disappoint, she delivers.
I don't want to spoil anything because I know people take longer than one week to read an 800+ page book, but I still want to say some things!
This book was an adventure, a rollercoaster, a masterpiece in crafting layering, and growing.
The plot:
I loved the story. We left Bryce in front of our beloved Rhysand and even though the audience was divided concerning this multiverse crossover I think SJM was very elegant in the way she wrote it.
First of all, we see Rhys briefly and he doesn't take the spotlight from Bryce. Bryce in fact interacts much more with the other two characters and I enjoyed the trio a lot (but loved the duo from the ACOTAR series, I hope we will get to see more of them).
Bryce stays very briefly in Valarys and I was happy about it. This is Crescent City after all.
The world-building kept getting better and better and I loved all the parts set in the House of Flame and Shadow.
I love it when the plot layers the characters and in this case, the 'bad guys were the Asteri, yes, but there was also Bryce and Rhun's father and his friends, the Viper Queen, the River Queen, Sabine and I'm sure I'm forgetting someone.
The writing:
The writing in this book was a little fragmented and it was difficult to follow in the beginning, but then, once I understood the pattern, easy breezy lemon squeezy.
The characters:
Bryce was as cool as ever, even if I didn't love her behavior toward Hunt at some point, but then she sort of redeems herself so all is well.
Hunt, I think I like him more and more. The vulnerability he shows in this book is very important. I love an alphahole who can be scared.
Their love story is now solid and I'm so happy about it.
Therion and Ithan made a big break in this book. Their storyline improved so much and became so interesting. I loved every second of reading about them.
And lastly, BUT MOSTLY
RHUN DAHAN, CROWN PRINCE OF THE VALBARAN FAE, AND LIDIA CERVOS, DAYLIGHT AND THE BEST CHARACTER EVER WRITTEN.
Whatever I write about them it's a spoiler, but man…… P E R F E C T I O N !
Five stars just for them.
Perfection
