About this listen

The brilliant new crime thriller from the BAFTA-winning writer behind the TV series Prime Suspect and author of Widows, now a major motion picture

When WPC Jane Tennison is promoted to the role of Detective Constable in London’s Bow Street CID, she is immediately conflicted. While her more experienced colleagues move on swiftly from one criminal case to another, Jane is often left doubting their methods and findings. As she becomes inextricably involved in a multiple rape case, Jane must put her life at risk in her search for answers.

Will she toe the line, or endanger her position by seeking the truth?

A number one bestselling author, Lynda La Plante was inaugurated into the Crime Writing Hall of Fame in 2009 and received, at the 2014 Harrogate Crime Festival, the Theakstons award for Outstanding Contribution to Crime Fiction. The Tennison series has been made into a new prime-time ITV series called Prime Suspect 1973.

While listening I thought it wasn't quite as good as the first book, but by the time I finished it I had changed my mind. I really enjoyed it.

Very enjoyable

I loved this book and binged listened to it over three days while doing DIY tasks, painting and peeling off wallpaper. The story and the reader were both fantastic. A very, very enjoyable listen. Thank you for making DIY such fun.

Fantastic.

Enjoy seeing Tennisons career evolve but narrators accents are almost laughable at times which really detracts from the story.

Good but terrible accents off-putting

Grey story - quite dated but relevant to that time period. Would definitely recommend to LLP fans.

Entertaining

The year is 1974 and after the tragic events at Hackney in book one, Jane Tennison has now completed her probation and is a WPC, although her dream is still to become a detective. One of her first jobs is acting as a decoy for DI Moran to lure out a suspected sexual predator and after a successful arrest where Jane herself is attacked, she gets the chance to move to CID at Bow Street where she runs into former colleague DS Spencer Gibbs who needed to get away from Hackney and all its memories. An accidental death proves suspicious when Jane challenges the evidence and the earlier case of the rapist runs alongside in an investigation that produces some shocking twists. Jane soon begins to suspect everyone and everything but still finds she has much to learn in this second superb book in a brilliant series.
Jane is still young and very naïve at times, and the seedy area’s sex shops and prostitutes are an eye-opener to her after her comfortable upbringing. Still she is becoming better at challenging her superiors when she gets that gut feeling she cannot ignore and the reader can start to see the highly intuitive officer she will become later in her career. The settings and characters are very well depicted, as are the struggles facing any female officer in those days and even though this is quite a lengthy book, the pages fly past in an engrossing and highly charged story. I’m looking forward to more Tennison in book three, Good Friday, where this much-loved character gets caught up in a terrifying bombing campaign.
A pleasant narration but some of the accents involved were not always great.

Jane is learning fast!

If you like the tennison series both prime suspect and tennison you will love this. What a fantastic continuation of the tennison story! Gripping! After seeing both of the above I mentioned as on Tv I can really see Jane as one of my all time favourite book characters! This a nice balance of character storylines and crime storylines! Perfect 👌

Can’t wait for the next book this was excellent sequel to TENNISON.

Was it. Worth the cost? It's a very big yes from me I had decided not to pick another crime novel but in a moment of madness I started now I am hooked loved the book okay one or two factual mistakes but it's not supposed to be a history book. Now I am off to down load the next book in the series.
