Complex and excellent
Love all the characters I’ve known and loved for some time now, it was nice to hear of others from the Jackman series too. The story was very complex and I adore Henrietta’s narration. The characters feel like friends now.

An excellent story, intricately woven expertly told and worthy of the series I have so enjoyed.
I love Joy Ellis' work, I have read or rather listened to everyone of her books I can find. This story is no exception, and it continues to pursue the characters I have come to be so invested in during the previous episodes of the tales of the Fenland Constabulary. Well done Joy-another massively enjoyable tale of characters I have come enjoy so much.

Good tale but ….
Have enjoyed lots of Joy Ellis books and like the characters and being able to visualise the Fens. This was a good storyline spoiled by the narrator with an overly posh accent. Also sounded quite aggressive towards characters being questioned

Good story - new narrator rather spoils it
Have read every Joy Ellis book with great pleasure (and most of them on audible.). Having waited in anticipation for this book, I loved the story but was disappointed in the narration. Narrator sounds like she went to the same school as the Princess of Wales. There are hardly any of the usual local accents. Please think about this next time as think people will be disappointed too. The narrator would be excellent in a middle class, London -centric story.

Loved this one.
Three days. Three murders. No leads . . . except for Nikki’s mother.
The call comes at 6.30 a.m. Widowed Angela Sandford has been found dead in her expensively-furnished bungalow. An overdose, it would appear.
But to Detective Nikki it doesn’t add up. Angela was planning a holiday next month. The trip of a lifetime. She had everything to live for.
The following night there’s another death on Nikki’s patch. A fatal hit-and-run. A young woman deliberately mown down as she picked up a takeaway fish supper.
The next day, a third suspicious death. The dead man is found sprawled on the dining room floor in his grand old house, blood soaking into the carpet.
And Nikki’s mother was the last person to see him alive.
In each case, there is no clue, no motive and no suspect. It’s up to Nikki and her team to find the link before more people die.
The Setting
The Lincolnshire Fens: great open skies brood over marshes, farmland, and nature reserves. It is not easy terrain for the Fenland Constabulary to police: with remote Fen villages, dangerous and often misty lanes, and poor telephone coverage. There are still villages where the oldest residents have never set foot outside their own farmland. A visit to the nearest town is a major event. But it has a strange airy beauty to it, and above it all are the biggest skies you’ve ever seen.
My comments:
Really enjoyed this book, I am a huge fan of this series and it's been grate to see how Nikki and Joseph have developed over the series. This was full of twists and I had no idea who the killer was. Nikki and Joseph are well developed characters and the rest of there team are fantastic supporting characters. This book was also very fast pace and the audible version was well narrated.

Another fantastic read !
I have been waiting for this book for so long ! Joy Ellis does it again with another fantastic book in this detective series. I love the characters and their relationships with each other which provides a sense of warmth set against the darkness of the murders to be solved.

Another very enjoyable Nikki Galena book (with a but...)
I've read all the other books and am completely hooked. Spolier alert!.... but seriously the last line?? what was Joy Ellis thinking ... that this amazing woman cop gives up her identity to 'become Mrs Joseph Easter'. I actually found this aspect really sad. Loved the book otherwise.

Amazing twist!
Never saw it coming who turns out to be behind it all.
Great story line as always, just not having so much Cat, Ben & vonnie.
