Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

As senior MI6 Officer Kate Henderson arrives for a weekend away in Venice, a Russian spy enters the city with plans to kidnap her....

But it’s not all it seems. The defector offers her conclusive evidence that the British prime minister is a live agent working for Moscow. Kate’s holiday quickly becomes the start of her next mission.

With proof of the PM involved in a sordid scandal and a financial paper trail that undeniably links him to the Russians, the evidence seems bulletproof. But is anything in the dark world of espionage ever that simple?

The motives of the defector are anything but clear and, more worryingly, it seems that there are key people at the heart of the British Establishment who refuse to acknowledge the reality in front of them.

Kate can trust no one, and this mission will push her dangerously close to the edge...but is that the price to pay for the truth?

Great follow up

I thought this was a great follow up to the first Kate Henderson story. The book moves at a nice pace and the narration is first class. I’m looking forward to the next book in this series.

Brilliant!

I loved Secret Service and Double Agent didn’t disappoint. Very happy there is a third on the way. Beautifully narrated by Juliet Aubrey. She is always a pleasure to listen to and I think my favourite narrator of all. Great story too.

Complex twisty turny

Story was great and having a female protagonist who is also a mother was interesting. I sometimes found the narration hard to follow, with the male characters. But quite compelling.

More please!!

Having recently said on a previous review that I tend to steer clear of female narrators as so many revert to the tone you would use when reading to young children, I was delighted to listen to this Narrator whose presentation was adult and convincing.

The story line was interesting, exciting and described the emotional impact on people who choose the spying game as their career. It is all too easy to think of the James Bond character when when visualizing what type of person goes into the espionage game. This story brought me down to earth with a bump.

Both the two books following this character that are currently available on Audible were well worth the money and I would love to purchase more when they are available.

The story continues

Quite a strange thriller as it was solely concerned with the fallout from events in the first book, Secret Service.
There was enough backstory given to be able to follow what was going on however it was a bit like an extended epilogue.
Given the turn of events, here’s hoping the next book will be a completely fresh story involving some of the established characters (and less time dwelling on the agonies of insomnia).
Criticisms aside, I was glad to see there was more subtle blurring of fact/fiction with a brief mention of ITV News and a real life Trump incident but sadly no appearance by Robert Peston this time.
