William Russell is excellent! stories were ok.

Aztecs and Crusade were excellent and brilliantly narrated by the great William Russell! The rest were ok. The stories didn't grab me in the same way. Named chapters would also have been helpful. Set as a whole is ok and worth it for William Russell alone who does an excellent Hartnell.

worth it for The Myth Makers and The Crusade

The Myth Makers and The Crusade are two of the best Doctor Who novelisations... and they're brought to life excellently here. Stephen Thorne is fantastic and makes a highly entertaining story absolutely sing!

The Aztecs is a bit slow and fails to capture the magic of the telly version. Masque is ok, a bit lightweight but well read by Tim Piggot-Smith... the Visitation is the only real weak link.

Not the best...

I can understand the overall theme of Dr Who through history and it should work however, it was spoilt for me by some poor characterisations and some very annoying sound effect especially in The Aztecs.

A mixed bag - worth a listen for The Myth Makers

Containing 4 Target novelisations: The Crusaders, The Myth Makers, The Masque of Mandragora and The Visitation this is something of a mixed bag, with the adaptations of different levels of interest and the readings similarly varied. The high point for me was the highly eccentric telling of The Myth Makers, read with aplomb by Stephen Thorne.
