Summary

You may know me best as Meredith Nic Essus, princess of faerie. Or perhaps as Merry Gentry, Los Angeles private eye. In the fey and mortal realms alike, my life is the stuff of royal intrigue and celebrity drama. Among my own, I have confronted horrendous enemies, endured my noble kin's treachery and malevolence, and honored my duty to conceive a royal heir - all for the right to claim the throne. But I turned my back on court and crown, choosing exile in the human world - and in the arms of my beloved Frost and Darkness.

While I may have rejected the monarchy, I cannot abandon my people. Someone is killing the fey, which has left the LAPD baffled and my guardsmen and me deeply disturbed. My kind are not easily captured or killed. At least not by mortals. I must get to the bottom of these horrendous murders, even if that means going up against Gilda, the Fairy Godmother, my rival for fey loyalties in Los Angeles.

But even stranger things are happening. Mortals I once healed with magic are suddenly performing miracles, a shocking phenomenon wreaking havoc on human/faerie relations. Though I am innocent, dark suspicions of banned magical activities swirl around me.

I thought I'd left the blood and politics behind in my own turbulent realm. I had dreamed of an idyllic life in sunny L.A. with my beloved ones beside me. But it becomes time to wake up and realize that evil knows no borders, and that nobody lives forever - even if they're magical.

Need to add the rest of the series

Great series,
Audible need to add the remaining books and make them available. Hopefully this will happen.

Another winning tale

Back to the original narrator of the series. Don’t know why but it was good to have her back. Her voice fits the FMC very well.

The story this time focuses back on crime solving. It was a good mystery and you didn’t see it coming until the very end. There is less character development and world building in this book because so much has already gone before. I liked it quite a lot and highly recommend.

Not the best voice over

As much as i enjoyed this book i think i'd rather have read it myself as the woman's voice was a tad annoying most of the time and her fairy voice really grated at times. Anyone who has read these books will have already built up an image and impression of what they think the characters voices sound like, which is something to always bear in mind with audio books, but this woman didn't do it for me unfortunately. The story however tied up some loose ends and i think marked a good start to getting back to how Ms Hamilton used to write!

couldn't continue, narration annoying

I have been reading the Merry Gentry series for years, love them, recently I cant read books as my eyes are bad so its either my Kindle or the wonderful and fantastic Audible, I repurchased the series from book 1 on Kindle and cannot recommend enough but audible only does from book 8. I excitedly purchased using my credit and set to listen, My back was getting up from first chapter...... one of the Main characters is DOYLE not DOLE, and the voices ... OMG you have these hot sexy very MASCULINE guys and the voices she uses are ridiculous... Ok maybe after reading the series 4 times and having set voices in my head any other voices would be wrong, BUT how can you read the book getting one of the main characters names wrong... surely if you are going to narrate a book you will have read the whole series first to get an idea of the characters you are taking for, their personalities etc so you can get the voices even nearly appropriate.
This review is for the audible book NOT the story, I highly recommend the whole Merry Gentry series, its a brilliant story, extremely well written and very easy to get lost in the world of fey, with some really interesting characters, you have the ones you love, the ones you hate and the just plane cringeworthy, perfect story.
I couldn't stand listening to this after chapter 4 as it was ruining the book / story for me, I am gutted that I have wasted a credit on this as I cannot return it for some reason, total waste of time and money in my eyes. I will go back to my kindle and have to read it with the larger print instead of listening
