About this listen

Some secrets are worth killing for.

When DCI Duncan Bone is contacted by a terminally ill psychiatric patient and given clues linking a 40-year-old unsolved murder to high-profile public figures, he finds himself locked into a conspiracy at the very heart of the Scottish criminal and political establishment.

With his bosses stonewalling the investigation, lives under threat, and his career on the line, Bone faces a race against time to hunt down a group of men who will stop at nothing to cover their murderous crime.

Can DCI Bone catch the killer before the killing starts again?

Set among the dramatic hills and glens of Scotland's Campsie Fells, Dead Man's Stone is the third in a series of edge-of-your-seat crime thrillers that will keep you guessing right up to the nail-biting, heart-stopping climax. Perfect for fans of Ian Rankin, J. D. Kirk, Val McDermid, and Stuart MacBride.

Great story as always

I loved this - love the narrator- can’t fault him…but the written words he said, she said over and over, irritated me…could only listen in small sessions for this reason

Yet another enjoyable book in this series

This was yet another great listen - really enjoyed and so inventive. The descriptions were lovely, the characters are more developed as they continue their 'journeys'. The scenery and location are so brilliantly described and is a character in itself.

This could be listened to as a standalone but I would recommend for a more full experience to listen to the first two as it gives more of the background why DCI Bone is sufferering PTSD.

The narration really suits - All in all really do recommend.

I was given a free copy by the author via the book club - audible listeners but the review is entirely my own.

Another excellent addition to the series

As per the other books in the series, this is another excellent listen helped along by terrific narration by Steve Worsley. With DCI Duncan Bone now in a remote location to help with his recovery from PTSD, a cold case is bought to his attention about which a terminally ill prisoner wishes to speak with him. This sparks investigations which lead to certain high profile individuals, though for various reasons the case is not easy to solve amidst plenty of twists and turns. The characters are continuing to develop and are very likable, and the touches of humour are especially welcome. Highly recommended. Mine was a review copy through The Book Club Audible Listeners group - the review is my own.

Great storytelling,

intricate and descriptive observation of characters and beautifully narrated but a bit confusing at the end

Great Series

Enjoyed listening to the 3rd book in this series (read the others first)set in rural Scotland. I love a flawed cop tale and these characters are developing nicely. The story was fast paced and kept me hooked to the bitter end. The narrator is perfect and compliments the tale. It was indeed a nail bighting finish and I look forward to the next one.

Well worth the wait

Having read books 1 & 2, I cpuldnt wait to start book 3! I have to say this is probBly my favourite so far in the series!

DCI Bone is on sick leave recuperating from his longstanding PTSD, when Walker brings him a mesaage. A terminally ill prison inmate wants to share details on a cold case but he will only speak to Bone.

Can Bone unearth a 40 year old cold case with potential witness's mysteriously dying all while coping with his own inner demons?

A dark tale is contrasted with the familiar banter from Mullens and the rest of Bones team while they work to bring justice the the victims family.

Another winner from this brilliant author and wonderful narration. 5 stars from me and I will now eagerly await book 4!
