About this listen
Power-hungry Kalare has rebelled against Alera's aging First Lord, Gaius Sextus. Ill-equipped to face this attack, Gaius must seek support - even from the combative High Lord of Aquitaine. Kalare has also seized valuable hostages that could mean the difference between victory and failure. And Amara, the First Lord's Cursor, has been tasked with their rescue. She has earned this trust but are her allies as worthy - or does the Lady Aquitaine see the time as ripe for betrayal?
Treachery is rife elsewhere, as young Tavi of Calderon will find. Posted away from the war, Tavi joins a legion anyway, under an assumed name. Then Kalare does the unthinkable - uniting with the brutish Canim.
When treason wipes out the army's command structure, Tavi finds himself leading an inexperienced legion against the might of the Canim horde - the very last resort of a war-torn realm.

Except for the huge annoyance, the world grows richer, the sorry fuller. characters gets more fleshed out and all in all it was wonderfull. Narrator is awesome as always , especially when she sometimes goes into the voice of the character as another character talks about them (saying their name, she uses tavis voice sometimes when talking about just the word tavi ) I just love her job here.

The performance is 10/10 but looses a star because of the excessive use of trumpets.
Great book, could not stop

a shame, because otherwise this series is one of the finest sword-and-sorcery series I have ever read, and this book is where it really starts to build.
Hopefully Amazon will see these reviews and have a look at the edits made in production.

These just aren't needed and throw you out of the story.
I could forgive them if they were between chapters but they happen in places that make no sense at all.
Other than that the voice work is as expected from Kate and the story is as entertaining as others of Jim's work.
another good story
