About this listen
When recovering drug addict Lyle Pickering is found dead of an overdose, it looks like a tragic accident. But his sister Rochelle knows better, and so does Lieutenant Eve Dallas. Lyle was murdered, and the evidence points directly to his old street gang.
As Eve and husband Roarke track the killer through the city's dive bars, drug dens and strip joints, another body is discovered. With connections growing between the living and the dead, and the body count on the rise, Eve knows she needs to close this case fast, before the killer's lust for power turns the city's streets into a bloodbath.

Predictable

On a side note I was disappointed, like another reviewer, not to be able to enter the competition. I think that was very short sighted of the Macmillan book people.
Always amazing

I own all of the In Death titles, and have listened to each of them dozens of times. They are my go-to entertainment, and can guarantee that Dallas's New York is irresistible.
This book isn't as complex as many others, and there aren't the surprises or twists we usually enjoy , which was a bit disappointing, but the characters are as reliable and attractive as ever. As always, Susan Ericksen's narration is perfect.
But UK listeners - anyone outside the US - can't enter competition so don't bother counting the bells throughout the story. It's a shame, but probably to be expected. Would have appreciated to be told from the beginning though!

Robb since her first writings, I look forward to each new book under her own name and that of J D ROBB. For me I can go back and forth and listen to each book a second and third time easy. I never get tired of listening over and over again. Thank you . As an 82 year old your story's still keep me rivatad.. Roll on next ones .

I enjoyed this novel as I've enjoyed it's predecessors. It isn't complicated or particularly deep, it's a comforting read where the good guys beat the bad guys and life continues on.
While I do enjoy Susan Erikson's audio performance for the most part, there is one element that continues to grate; the attempt at an Irish accent for Roarke. At times it morphs into Scottish, even hints of Welsh and an underlying American twang. As someone who lives in an area with a reasonable number of Irish accents - from all over the Emerald Isle - it has been interesting to see what native Irish friends have thought. The overall opinion hasn't been high. However I will say that if you can get past the Roarke accent, then the rest of the performance is a good standard and an enjoyable listen.
Overall decent quality, with a good performance despite some of the accents needing work
