Summary

A dangerous alliance between a Vampyre bride and an Alpha werewolf becomes a love deep enough to sink your teeth into in this new paranormal romance from the New York Times bestselling author of The Love Hypothesis.

Misery Lark, the only daughter of the most powerful Vampyre councilman of the Southwest, is an outcast - again. Her days of living in anonymity among the Humans are over: she has been called upon to uphold an historic peacekeeping alliance between the Vampyres and their mortal enemies, the Weres, and sees little choice but to surrender herself in the exchange - again . . .

Weres are ruthless and unpredictable, and their Alpha, Lowe Moreland, is no exception. He rules his pack with absolute authority, but not without justice. And, unlike the Vampyre Council, not without feeling. It's clear from the way he tracks Misery's every movement that he doesn't trust her. If only he knew how right he was . . .

Because Misery has her own reasons to agree to this marriage of convenience, reasons that have nothing to do with politics or alliances, and everything to do with the only thing she's ever cared about. And she is willing to do whatever it takes to get back what's hers, even if it means a life alone in Were territory . . . alone with the wolf.

So good

This book hit all my favourite tropes, is wellwritten, and had a good plot. I giggled and kicked my feet. I gasped. Every chapter starts with a few lines of 3rd person POV of Lowe, so even though the story is written in a singular 1st person pov, we do get a feel of where Lowe's head is at. And that had me happily squeeling some more as the story progressed.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I want MORE monster romances by Ali 🥰

I enjoyed doing a re-read through the audiobook, after also reading the physical book. The narration by Therese Plummer and Will Damron is very well done. It cemented my feeling that, even though the storytelling is good, I would have loved proper dual pov chapters! The snippets of Lowe pining in Damron's growly voice are everything 😍

Great little slow burner with a wonderful climax!

I loved the build up, where she didn't realise that she is...... I won't say it incase I spoil it.... Then the spicy bits selaed it with a hell yer. Easy to listen to and the perfect length. I recommend it. Hope she writes a sequel!! Xx

Some funny bits

This book was surprisingly OK. I really did like the FMC. She was funny and also very self-assured. She's thrown into a bad situation by her father, and she deals and copes.
Why not a five-star? This book was good, not brilliant. There wasn't much enemies to lovers, small bits of intrigue, some plot holes, but overall not a bad read 👍

Good voicing, bad writing.

The narration was great. The writing was unnecessarily wordy, hyperbolic and drawn out. Everytime a character feels something or looks a certain way it is described as some kind of world-shifting cataclysmic event.

The plot is fine, if a little on the nose with some things.
The pentesting aspect was a little too hollywood, and could have used a little more research. Firewalls are not just randomly created by IT personnel and are generally outsourced to specialised companies (unless you’re configuring linux iptables which makes no sense in the given context) just as an example.
It was difficult to suspend disbelief when confronted with the knot situation. Not because of the idea itsself, more because of how it was written.
I will always be a supporter of creative freedom, so not fussed about knots and other physiological fictional aspect.
The writing was mostly the main issue. I cannot remember ever being this impatient when listening to an audiobook.
At one point I shouted at the phone ”get to the effin point already!” After what felt like a paragraph and a half of describing some emotional turmoil in the middle of an event or discussion.

Brilliant

Loved it all! Well written, looking forward to what comes next, as it seems to finish a little abruptly
