Summary
The year is 1855, and on the LNWR train to London, a criminal is being escorted to his appointment with the hangman. But the wily Jeremy Oxley, conman, thief and murderer, has one last ace up his sleeve: a beautiful and ruthless accomplice willing to do anything to save her lover, including committing cold-blooded murder...
When Inspector Robert Colbeck learns that Oxley, his nemesis, has once again escaped, black memories of their shared past leave him no choice but to do his duty. No matter the cost, he must bring the murderous Oxley to justice - once and for all.Cornelius Garrett reads this thrilling Victorian murder mystery from popular author Edward Marston.

Disappointing Voices
Unfortunately, the change of actor narrating this book has not been successful. The superintendent no longer has any military authority (he now sounds like a "spiv" or "wide-boy"). I kept expecting Sgt Leeming to say "You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!" or some other Michael Caine saying and the murderer was Voldemort I'm convinced. The stories themselves remain an easy and good listen

Great Storyline
Excellent performance the narrator finally grew on me unless he was doing Superintendent Tallis no idea what was is in his mind there. Great Storyline with an international twist a historical Bonnie & Clyde storyline.

Great story, awful narration!
I’m pleased to see that this narrator has only performed two in this series. His chirpy cockney Leeming and ‘South African’ Tallis are appalling. Redeemed by Edward Marston’s excellent storytelling. Just a shame about the narrator!

What has happened to Sergeant Leeming?
Overall, the new narrator does a good job except with Sergeant Leeming and Superintendent Tallis. The narrator has turned Leeming into a Michael Caine impersonator. I kept expecting him to tell someone to stop chucking spears about! I have no clue what is going on with Mr Tallis. I did enjoy the story.
