About this listen

When a frightened Russian woman seeks DCI Hanlon's help in finding her missing husband, Hanlon's not keen on the case. Until she hears a name she recognises only too well: Arkady Belanov, sadistic pimp and owner of an exclusive brothel in Oxford is involved.

When her former partner and friend disappears, Hanlon is forced into an uneasy alliance with the London underworld to rescue him from the blood-stained hands of the Russian mafia.

I love the DCI Hanlon books so much that as soon as my credit is available, I buy the next one in the series. This book is great, a little far fetched and totally not by the rules but it’s an easy listen and if you know and like Hanlon, you’ll like a little bit more after this book. Excellently narrated by the very talented Adjoa Andoh.

Another corker!

great narration, story ok, author seems obsessed with characters weight. One woman in the book we are told is a size 12, then later we are told 'despite her size' she manages to climb into a tractor. Another character spends all three books bemoaning his lost physique. Yes spoiled it for me.

enjoyed the book, not so much the fat shaming

Amazing

Hanlon has been relocated to preserve her career, as she is a 'take action' kind of woman which is why we love her, but her bosses are not so keen, although Corrigan has always been on her side which is why she's now in Slough listening to a Russian woman talk about her missing (presumed dead) husband. Hanlon is not at all interested until she hears the magic words ' Arkady Belanov ' and then she is all ears.

What follows is simply brilliant, vengeance on all (well most) of Hanlon's enemies, but I do admit that this leaves me worried about the future of this series. I sincerely hope that there will be more Hanlon books for me to obsess over.

Oh, and by the way, Adjoa Andoh narrates this marvellously, get it now, you will not regret it, unless you are new to DI Hanlon in which case you might want to start at book 1 because that is also brilliant, and will give you an idea of what is going on, although this book could be listened to as a standalone it will be much better enjoyed as part of the series.

DCI Hanlon at her best

I enjoyed the other D I Hanlon books but not so much with this one. Although Adjoa Andoh has a lovely speaking voice and is a very good narrator I'm afraid her Russian accent really put me off, it sounded like someone trying to do a cartoon version with a mouth full of rice pudding. It made me feel quite nauseous.
Slow start, very brutal and depressing in the middle (i almost gave up on it) but picks up at the end with a reasonable conclusion

Terrible Russian accent

Narrator breathed life into characters especially Russian accents. Final shoot-out exciting and action packed!

Best D I Hanlon book yet
