Summary

Taking the high road is a whole lot easier with someone to love....

Prepare for romance and fun with the second audiobook in the home-flipping series Flipping for You, brought to you by USA Today best-selling author Josie Riviera.

Attorney Desiree Contando can think of only one word to describe her very first home: disaster. The vintage Queen Anne is beautiful - or will be, in about 1,000 years. Certainly not in time to host the family Christmas gathering.

“Disaster” also describes the bad breakup that left her picket-fence vision in tatters. Even the carpenter she’s hired is a reminder of lost dreams - the high school crush who never spared her a passing glance. But she’s a grown-up now, perfectly capable of keeping things professional.

Keiran O’Malley is back in Roses, North Carolina, lugging his own shattered dreams of home and family. Until he’s on his feet and ready to open his own Irish pub, serendipity finds him an attic apartment in Desiree’s fixer-upper in exchange for his remodeling skills.

Roses is all polished up for the holidays, but nothing outshines the Cinderella beauty who owns the house. The spin of warmth between them is instantaneous...but their broken hearts may not be strong enough to build happiness on, especially when the past shows up to demand its share.

When two hearts get in a jam, it’ll take more than whiskey cake to sweeten the deal.

Romance

It’s your typical boy meets girl, happened really quickly and a little corny. Still I listened right to the end. Overall a good quick listening.

Renovations and romance!

I love Christmas books, they always bring joy to my heart. This book by Josie Riviera is no exception. It's the perfect listen for an afternoon of enjoyment. Meet Desiree. A lawyer, she is trying to put her roots down and buying her house is the start. She knew it needed work, but when Kieran takes a look at it, his frown tells her it's more than she thought! The problem is, there is a time frame for it to be complete! Kieran has returned to his hometown not to be a carpenter, but to revive his family's pub. First he needs some money though, so this job should help him out. From the time he talks to her front porch to the finished project, the story is wonderful. Pasts come to haunt, dinners get cooked and details in the fine print may cause some problem. But Riviera keeps the story fresh, flowing and full of romance. I loved it!

Cheryl May does a great job bringing this gem to life. Each character and emotion is felt through her narration and she kept me captivated to find out how things would go. It's a great listen!

Lovely story

A really nice, sweet story, just what I needed for a day working in the kitchen. I can read/listen to Christmas books all year round so this was great. I enjoyed the interp!ay between the two main characters, thought I'd worked out how the story was going to pan out and was completely wrong.....I like that! So often books are formulaic and then I get bored. I do, however, suspect I may have been better reading it as a book. The only downside was the narration, which for me, was a little flat and monotone, lacking in life and passion. Other than that, super!

Clean, God-fearing Romance

This is my first review of an audiobook and I must admit I much prefer a written novel, so readers of this may want to take this into account when looking at my overall rating, as this obviously affected how I viewed the story.

I found the first chapter difficult to get into because I couldn't understand all the words. Some of that was obviously acclimatising to an American accent but I returned to the beginning of the book after I finished and there was still a passage that I couldn't make out (referring I think to something that had happened in a previous book). Otherwise understanding of the narrator's speech did improve but I must admit to being irritated that 50% of the time Keiran's name sounded like Karen to my ear (often from one sentence to the next).

Both the H and h come to their relationship with baggage and Desiree in particular "cuts off her nose to spite her face" by rejecting Kieran when she feels he hasn't opened up about everything in his recent past and refusing to listen to anything he might say; which I felt was rather childish in a fully fledged lawyer (who ought to know there are always two sides to a story). Note: they have known each other for less than a month.
I received a free code from the author and am voluntarily reviewing.
