Susan W. Liebman, PhD, is a geneticist and a member of a family shattered by a deadly mutation. She was one of MIT's early female undergraduates, obtained a PhD from the U of Rochester, and served as a biology Professor at the U of Illinois at Chicago for 34 years. There, her groundbreaking research and teaching excellence led her to be the first woman named a Distinguished University Professor. In 2008, tragedy struck when Liebman's 36-year-old niece suddenly collapsed and died. This propelled Liebman to become a medical genetics detective. Today, she leads a genetics research group at the U of Nevada, Reno, and raises awareness about hereditary diseases and the importance of early detection through her writing, speaking engagements, and as a medical school instructor. Liebman also enjoys creative writing, painting, and spending time with her husband of over 50 years, 2 children, and 4 grandchildren. She invites readers to join her in exploring the fascinating world of genetics on the journey towards a healthier future.
