Matthew Sullivan’s debut novel, Midnight at the Bright Ideas Bookstore—a mystery set in a fictionalized version of the Tattered Cover Book Store in Denver—was an IndieNext pick, a Barnes & Noble Discover Pick, a GoodReads Choice Award finalist, and winner of the Colorado Book Award. His new stand-alone novel, Midnight in Soap Lake, is a character-driven mystery pitched in the vein of Twin Peaks and set in a fictionalized version of Soap Lake, Washington. Sullivan's writing has appeared in The New York Times, The Strand, CrimeReads, The Daily Beast, and elsewhere, and his short stories have been awarded the Florida Review Editor’s Prize and the Robert Olen Butler Fiction Prize. He grew up in a family of eight kids in Aurora, Colorado, worked as an indie bookseller in Denver and Boston, and taught writing for 20 years at a community college in rural Washington State. He lives and writes in Anacortes, WA, along the Salish Sea.
